When are we getting another fanfiction contest? I know it's only marginally DA3:I related, but seeing as we've (DA3 followers) only very limited information to talk about, and we are just making it up as we go along, anyway, why not let give us somewhere to channel our imaginations. I really did enjoy writing for the 'Asunder' contest and I think a new contest with say the impending 'Dragon Age: World of Thedas' signed by some of our favorite devs and a copy of DA3:I on a favorite system as the prize? I know that would get my creatvie juices going.

Doesn't holding a contest imply that they have stuff they want to give away? Considering the stage of development they're in, they probably don't have a lot of relevant swag to hand out at the moment.

Depending on how much fun they had with the Asunder contest, they might conceivably have another writing contest at some future point when they have some other tie-in product to advertise. Or maybe not.

You could always hold your own writing thing, you know. Maybe start a Dragon Age Poetry thread or something.

True Story...

I know somebody who entered the last contest. She entered it and thought her story was the BEST that she trashed all the other stories. It got to the point where I hated hearing her do this but in the long run........Karma came and hit her hard. She didn't even place in the top 20 and NEVER mentioned it again.

I'm a bit guilty of that kind of narcissism as well. I really thought my entry would've placed at least, but alsas, no dice. Still, the contest itself was a good way explore my own interpretation of the setting. Having the limits of using that setting and involving a certain kind of character and an upper word count threshold helped me out tremendously. Really would love to have another go at a contest.

Personally, I wouldn't mind reading and rating it. There are some excellent writers out there. I will admit that getting into and reading fanfiction is kinda like opening Pandora's Box. There are alot, alot, of bad stories out there, which is understandable. They are most likely new, or they don't care since they are writing just for fun.

But when you find a worthwhile story, or just an awesome author period, it more than makes up for the bad.

I imagine it must be ten times worse for the professional writer, since those people know what they're doing, and having to read through every fan's offering, complete with marginal grammar, spelling errors and threadbare plot lines must be excruciating.

But the rare times you can find a real gem, that would probably make up for it.  I think my writing is good (and I have an editor for my fanfics who rides my **** when it isn't), but I don't delude myself into thinking it's worthy of publishing.  Mostly I do it for fun and if I manage to come up with something I feel is good enough for posting, I do on the web for others to read.

I didn't enter the last contest because the only story I had I didn't feel was good enough, and didn't fit the criteria because I had already posted it online on ff.net.  And I only write when I feel like it, or have a tale to contribute.

Didn't even know they had this kind of contest. Participating for me though would just be wasting everyone's time. So they are spared one story less at least.

It's an intresting idea though. Not a big fan of writing fanfics however but if I'd ever decide to make one, it would be from Grim Fandango and it would suck big time. :P

This.  Fanfiction is for fun, and most fanfiction writers who are worth reading are at least aware of that.  I was super-busy when the last contest went on, and I think it'd be fun to take a crack at a new one.

Then again, I can't exactly blame the devs if they don't want to sort through all those fics again.  I used to beta for a Harry Potter fan fiction site, starting around when Goblet of Fire came out.  Christ on a ******, that was a headache.

Don't need a contest, this is the best piece of Fanfic written hands down and I hate fan fiction.

Demons within If bioware was smart, they'd give the creator a contract job.

Hmm, I'll have to download that to read for later. If there is one thing i can't resist, it's free books/stories! I would also suggest, if i have to make a recommendation as well, is the Dragon Age: The Crown of Thorns story on ff.net. It's very well-written, and it's also epic length (850k+ words). A big plus in my eyes!

Indeed. Must be the best fanfic I have ever read. To bad that the creator likes to write 2 and a half pages of rant against Behlen and his fans in the middle of the story. And that his protagonist is a borderline Gary Stue.

Ehrm, back on topic. I sent a story for the contest. Tought it was the best **** that had ever been writen. Then I read it again and died a little inside. Had to refrain myself from burning down Biowares office to destroy all evidence.

Given the number of hours and the amount of manpower they ended up dedicating to reading through each and every submission (they got some of the actual writing team reading through everything, not just the shortlist), it'll probably be a while before they're ready to entertain such a contest again, unless they vastly reduce the word count. The Mark of the Assassin comp word limit was 1000, for instance, and I don't think there were many fic submissions due to it being promoted as an art contest until right near the end.

I'd love to see another fic comp in the future though, of course. :)

You want a fanfic? I give you a fanfic;

Long time ago Hawke and the Warden were ealking in the woods when a dragon came out of nowhere and shot firre to the protanoist. Then Hawke said:
"I kill ya"

Then the warden saud:

"....." (Author note: haha, get it? ebcause he is a mute)

and together they slaid the monster and for the age of the dragon was a bout to start.

The End
