I'll never agree with the whole the game was a masterpiece up until the last five minutes notion. No it was not. The ending was just so bad that the other problems looked small in comparison.

Borderlands 2 is not a good game.

Very good article. Thanks for sharing it :)

Good FPS just can't have better story and gameplay than good RPG. It's just impossible. Pure FPS is always graphical-engine-and-multiplayer-biased game. Nothing more.

Oh, look who´s on the phone.

It´s Bioshock, Half-life and the gang, calling you out on your dementia.

Halo 4 was entertaining, but the story was sub-par and it doesn't even come close to touching the depth of Mass Effect's.

And Halo. And CoD. Lots of games have better story than ME3.

Lol, you're choices matter more in Black Ops 2 than they do in ME3, Bioware was bested by Call of Duty.

I'm quoting just to emphasize Half-Life.  A definite stand out game in a very crowded genre.

All because "Herp derp, can't have anything that messes with this!" with "this" being the overall plot of ME3, which is suck and die.

As a avid fan of mass effect and someone who liked mass effect 3 even before the extended cut, I have to say that Halo 4 did a much better job as a sequal game and deserves the nomination more.

And anyone dismissing that simply becasue it is an FPS has their head so far up their ass, it's amazing they haven't spotted their own esophagus yet.

Finished the game on legendary on my first play and the barely 8 (3.5ish on easy) hour shootfest segmented by 20 second cutscenes didn't sustain my lust for plot.

Must be snobby because i prefer some story with my story.

Mass Effect 3 win game of the year? What!?

Seriously, people have got to be kidding about that. Did anyone not see the massive outrage about the storywriting for the final mission and how it retroactively ruined the series for many of it's core fans?

Than you are a blind fool to not have noticed the turmoil that went on as master cheif tried to save his AI, the one thing that has kept him going and gives him some source of humanity from the ****ed up things that were inflicted upon him, as she slowly breaks down and begins to lose her mind. Or the quest to stop the didact from wiping out all of human life as we know it and prevent our species from replacing the forerunner race, which we were altered to do by the other forerunners due to them seeing that we could better survive than they could against the parasitic flood. Or all of the themes of inevitability and noble sacrifice that played out in the story.

All of those story elements flew right over your head, sorry if you couldn't bother to listen to dialouge or seek knowledge from the other games as to how significant the events in halo 4 were and measure a story's worth based soley on none interactive cutscenes.

I did measure how the story was based solely on the cutscenes.

It was
A - lacking crucial context from the books that it clearly needed and for the same reason lacking qaulity as an attempted stand alone or break away story.
B - nothing we haven't seen before
C - to short
D - not rich enough
E - all of the above

Everything not featured in a cutscene just felt numb. They chose the less important parts to visualise.

I'm not arguing ME3 deserves it, but it shouldn't be given to Halo4 just because "choose a big name to give the top award to".

It's called "Look at the Terminals". More story for those who care, not in the face for those who don't care.

Everything else is nuts. It's not that short and it has a rich backstory.

Read most of the books, found all terminals, watched all terminal videos.

It relies on them. Its nothing without its surrounding media.

The only thing there is "Why are there still Covenant enemies?" Everything else is workable with in-game knowledge without the terminals or books. They just enhance.

Still, i would argue people who didn't care about the story wouldn't play the game. In fact, they probably don't. probably just on multiplayer.

Which begs the question why not make the story as rich as possible for those who are interested.

SHISN0 does have a point. Halo has relied on external media more and more with each game. Having played every Halo game prior to this, and not having read most of the terminals in Halo 4, or any of the new books (last one I read was Ghosts of Onyx when they introduced the Spartan-IIIs) I was thoroughly confused at the start of the game.

Most notably with the aggressive Covenant considering the Elites were bros with the UNSC at the end of Halo 3. All I got was "Alot can happen in 4 years". All-knowing Google helped fill me in afterwards.

That being said I do still consider Halo 4's story to be better than ME3's personally.

The story is rich on it's own and even richer with all the other mediums, or with simply using the halo wiki. I'm sorry that you didn't see it but I'm having a hard time understanding how you couldn't.

It's just that simply, in my opinion, halo 4 is better than mass effect 3 and felt like a better sequel.

I like both universes, i just feel Mass Effect's is more accessible.

Perhaps using the additional media such as the codexs, books terminals and such has spoiled me.

I think that Halo 4 was a good mix of action and story. No need to load tons of cutscenes with exposition into the game. Plus, Spartan Ops is a delicious stream of story content every week.

I agree with spartan ops.

I relish the commander spartan sarah "hale" fem-palmer scenes.

I'd argue that since the Chief has been out of action for 4 years, niether he nor Cortana know why, so niether should you. Why should you? You (Playing as the MC) have been in cryo all that time and cutoff.

ME3 does the worst thing, not telling you why you're stuck on Earth for 6 months and who the hell James is. This doesn't jive since Shepard wasn't sleeping that long or out of contact. Where's the bridge?!

Oh yeah.

*Sees spooky alien device being spooky and disruptive, then field goal kicks it*

Busted a long laugh after that.
