He never betrayed me. I always keep my team's approvals high, and I know any one of them will betray otherwise. Nature of the game. I hated Zevran as soon as I discovered how his tastes were.
I killed him in my next playthrough. I was fairly surprised when I didn't enjoy it, and felt like I became a murderer. Maybe you may have to drop your humanity somewhere to be able to enjoy it, yes, even if this were just a game dummy.

That's a bit extreme. And how could my non-human chars drop their humanity? They are not human! It is not like I am exactly like the character, as far as personality and principles are concerned, although I tend to do that in my first run thru a game and did it in NWN mplayer as well, for 5 years. Never started a Mordor aligned char and I regret it now. It was fun! Actually never started any char other than my Sindarin Elven Archer!

He never betrays me as well, if I don't want him to. But it's not like I play the same personality every playtrough. For my Dalish Archer, anything trying to kill him does not get a second chance. For my Dwarf Noble Warrior, well, he's got some betrayal already stuck up in his throat! For my Human noble lady Rogue, well, she thinks he's funny and he made an oath after all, one she'll make him fulfill.

As for my irated City Elf Shadow Rogue, he just cut the throats of every single stupid person he met on his way. (already finished). My first, 2nd and 3rd chars, which were the same but better built and for different difficulty run, Zev was never a problem. Human noble 2-handed very Paladin type.

Just be sure you are playing the character and not becoming the character without knowing it :) I mean, yes, it is impossible for your non-human chars to drop their humanity, but it is possible for you (even if it were temporary). Surely you understand how the real person himself can be immersed in the game and be one with that virtual char. And if an RPG game is not that immersive then it wouldn't be accepted as a perfectly good one. What I am trying to say is there are times when you are immersed in a game that the boundaries between the reality and the game become really blurred where our own personalities may start getting injuries. A bit vigilance there wouldn't hurt.
Anyways, it is my conscience that feel wounded when I (not the non-human char) kill innocent people (even if they are not real), and I feel as if I am risking to kill my conscience too, since, after all, it can stand a limited number of injuries.

He IS one of the most loyal companions if you earn his trust, and will not walkout on you, unlike other sh*tstains i know. I find his stories entertaining, unlike Grandma's responsibility/love speeches... what nerve.

But his boot sniffing is the creepiest thing in the game

Oh, I know exactly what you mean! I feel that too as you can read here:
http://social.biowar...449432/2#539278

Zev was a good friend in that run with that char which was actually an extension of myself. But it's fun to RP a mean evil char too and as long as it leaves a bitter taste in our mouth, we know that we're not the char. I don't know how actors do it but I imagine the guy who played Gothmog or the Witch-king in the trilogy... or the Mouth of Sauron in the EE! Man, H.Ledger got all messed up with his Joker and we suffer the loss of a great actor!

And I just had that song playing and I thought it would be a funny version for me to do since I'm no girl but I kissed a lot of them and I liked it too! =)

I am one of the "Zevran is a fruit/pansy/etc." people. And I think neither of them should bite the dust. We simply do not have the right to decide about other people what is right or wrong. I cannot leave my humanity out of anything even when it is a game. I may decide to play the cruel, in which case I kill everybody without discrimination, to prove to my conscious that I am really playing a different role. Even in that case I never feel comfortable killing people on a whim. I am always aware when I play (whether in real life or in a game) on the boundaries which define my humanity. We always should be since we may also be killing something else in our hearts along with it.

Thanks, quite a profound answer. And glad I am to hear it. It really does depend on each individual. I've been playing RPG's a long time, but I was never able to let completely go of my own persona. I did try to play evil/heartless/whatnot, but I could never go through with it.

Rofl. That is hilarious. But you know what? I have a friend who got a new car, and I swear he went out to it every fifteen minutes (or there-abouts) to go and smell it. Honest. No lie. :)

Just figured would state something in my previous post I didn't state i kill him everytime. I roleplay my characters, I don't let my own views get in the way.

I can never understand why people playthrough the game countless times (more than 4) playing exactly the same way, recruiting the same people, using the same team each time just changing the endings, I don't get it?

I tended to do that when I knew not what is RP. It is an act. I'm performing. It has nothing to do with my personal RL beliefs or principles. I actually like the elf and all my neutral or good char will have him. Heh... can't have a 4some at the Pearl without him!

(although I hate how that will affect the ongoing romances with the female NPCs since I don't see my char even touching him at the Pearl... we just went for a swing party with 2 girls! I've done that for real and no girl cornered me demanding me to chose between them or my friends!)

There is nothing like the smell of a new car! I did the same with mine and actually forbid anyone from smoking anything inside... at least for some 6 months when the fragrance was gone... =)

Since you decide how to build your characters, I find Leliana to be quite a good fighter/Rogue. She is my archer and proves her worth whenever she is in the party. She did not turn on me, Zevron did.
In fact Leliana and Morrigon are bickering and slinging insults over my PC, this is what is driving me to distraction. It is kind of funny.
I have Leliana in command at the gates right now. She is doing a good job.

it does depend on how you build them up, and on that point, i find Leliana to be useless, dull and overly doe eyed, yet i still don't kill her. Leliana will try to kill you during the Urn quest of you decide to descrate the ashes. Zev on the other hand, is amazingly loyal, witty and deadly. he will only betray you if you ignore him the entire game, and it is very much the end of the game when his part of the story comes up.

to kill a character because they might romance your character is just silly, and shows a fair amount of hypricosy if you let Leliana live.

If you never made any attempt to be his friend, what loyalty did he actually owe you?

I will bever understand the "he betrayed me" bullcrap. If you didn't invest the time to actually make him like you (either as a friend or lover) then why shouldn't he go back to his old life if the chance came up? As for the "OMG he likes me, ewww!!!" sh!t, get over yourselves. One simple, "You're wasting your time" and its done. He never brings it up again.

OMFG...OP and the first reply....peeing my pants laughing!
Wow, music does incite people to violence...that song makes me want to kill Zevran!
I don't hate him....I just think he's kind of creepy in a Quagmire kind of way....
That, and he's an unapologetic assassin. At least Leliana feels bad about her past.

Not everyone appreciates a wide spectrum of play.  I consider myself a roleplayer first and foremost, but I can't enjoy an "evil" or especially bloodthirsty character.  I have to like and understand my character or I can't make myself do it just to see different outcomes of a video game.  I do look for variety but in more subtle ways.

Now to the thread topic, I am just finishing up my first Zevran-romance playthrough and am amazed at the depth I might have missed had I not tried it.  There is a lot more to him than meets the eye.  On my first character I all but ignored him and so I was shocked when he turned on me in Denerim, but if you understand his character arc, it is consistent.  He is at a desperate phase of his life and is looking for a future that does not include slavery to the Crows.  If he doesn't think it can happen with the Grey Warden, he feels he has no choice but to go back and to do that he has to cooperate with Taliesin.  He has been taught to kill without regard to his personal feelings.  Unless you give him a reason to see life in different terms, it's just what has to be.  For those who say "but look at all I did for him," OK, you spared his life, but he also fought darkspawn for you with no thanks and at the risk of dying a horrible death from even a genlock bite.  So... get over yourselves.

I wake him up and then kill him.

Only problem is geez, when you wake him up the guy talks a LOT. yak yak yak. He is one of those characters I really liked when I got them, and then subsequent playthroughs I disliked him more and more till now I just really hate him. Other characters i feel the same towards: Alistair and Wynne.

I got Zevran his mothers gloves and his boots my first playthrough and he bretrayed me at the end. Personally I think it was because I denied his advances but whatever. Jerk.

Killed him the second time on my human noble and it felt so good.

My male mage did keep him and I might even romance him... for a while until I focus on Morrigan I still havent seen this depth everyone keeps talking about.
