In Dragon Age Orgins and Dragon Age 2 there were four class specific specialisation that you could allocate talent points into if you desired to, whether it be assassin for Rogues or Templar for Warriors. In DA2 you were given all of the different specialisations for each class and didn't have to explore or figure out how to obtain any of them. In DA:O on the other hand you did have to explore different options to figuire out how to unlock some of the more desirable or useful specialisations such as Reaver or Blood Magic (not that the other specialisations were worse or anything I'm just pulling examples from the top of my head).

I liked having to play a character differently to what I usually would to open up a new specialisation for that playthrough and following playthroughs. For example you had to firstly play a mage yourself and then decide to go into the fade and then make a deal with the Desire Demon in Redcliffe Castle to obtain the Blood Magic specialisation, if you chose the right dialogue, that took me atleast a couple of playthroughs to find since I normally try to do the 'right thing' and try to save as many people as I can. I was happily suprised that you could do that sort of thing and be tempted to make the morally wrong decision and in return get a promise of power. Or if you wanted to unlock the Duelist specialisation you had to visit The Pearl in Denerim and figuire out how to beat Isabela in cards whether that be through your own attributes being high enough or through another party member or by having sex with her.  I also enjoyed that you had to befriend your companions in order for them to teach you their specific specialisation, for example Alistar wouldn't teach you the Templar specialisation until you had quite a high ammount of approval with him.

All in all (or the TL:DR version) Please don't give us all of the class specialisations right off the bat as you did in DA2 but make us work for them and figuire out how to unlock them as you did in DA:O

Bioware have said that Specializations will have a much bigger impact on story, though you will probably only be able to have a single one.

That wasn't really what I was getting at with my OP but still that's good to hear.
