Just picking some already mentioned in the thread that I loved:

Cities of Gold
Thundercats
Transformers
Captain Planet

Some others:
Inspector Gadget
Dangermouse
Dogtagnian
The Moomins
Sharkey and George
Teenage Mutant Hero (Ninja) Turtles
Count Duckula

And sooo many others.

If we broadened it to "Kids TV programmes" and not just cartoons then:
Knightmare

;)

What is really ironic about watching some of these old tunes on sites like hulu.com is realizing how much you were getting ripped off as a kid and never knew it. With all the commercials taken out, each episode is 23minutes, 50 seconds long. The 3 minutes and 50 seconds is eaten up with opening and closing credits. Each episode is really only 20 minutes of programming that we used to spend 30 minutes watching :))

I watched several shows already mentioned on this list growing up. My sister and I were real cartoon junkies during the 80s. Anyone that recognizes where my months old status line comes from knows my absolute favorite though, and that would be Jem. :)

I miss the Tex Avery old style cartoons, it was culture and insanity all on one short.

Magical maestro, best cartoon ever.

Bill Nye the Science Guy, since we're including kid's programme as well.

As well as another science show before this that I can't recall.

If we are bridging to live-action, and I'm still sticking to pre-Robotech to mean "old" for me -

You Can't Do That On Television
Mr. Wizard (all variations of his show)
Kids Incorporated
The Facts of Life

And if you want to get even younger -

Pinwheel
Mr. Roger's Neighborhood

never really watched Sesame Street or Electric Company

I may go post Robotech in another post if this thread lives for another couple days. :)

Pinwheel

I remember watching that at my Grandma's when I was a little kid (she had cable, we didn't.)  All I really remember from the show was a snail on top of a hedge.  A talking snail.

Any else remember 3-2-1 Contact?

Some of my top favorites have already been mentioned: Jem and the Holograms (even though the Misfits were the reason I really watched), Thundercats, Dungeons and Dragons....

But I'm a little surprised I haven't seen She-Ra (),
Scooby-Doo (),
My Little Pony (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP_rIAkb_v8),
The Littles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HAn4fByVb8),
or Rainbow Bright (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqJtEyxHhkA)

(I didn't play outside very much, can you tell?)

How could I forget The Super Globetrotters, Captain Caveman, and Fat Albert!

(Yeah, okay, I'm 47, I was watching cartoons in the 70s lol! Then again in the late 80s and early 90s with my son)

It's not that. It's just that for some of our memories, it was a long ago and far away time!
(Mow has "la la lalalala, la la lalala" running through his brain)
Have a very smurfy time!

Tom & Jerry.
Captain Planet
Animals of Farthing Wood
Bump in the Night(Technically it's Claymation but whatever)

In anime my favorite retro cartoon is Teknoman(Tekkaman Blade in Japan).

Captain Planet, he is the real hero. Educating kids about environmental hazards, climate change and AIDS.

Fractured Fairy Tales - heh! I was often late to school while trying to watch reruns of this one some 5 odd min before dashing off to HS on my bike.
