 Hello community!  I am writing a paper that discusses some aspects of game playing (I don't want to share anything that might influence responses, but if I get a good amount of them in a few days I'll tell you all about if if anyone's interested).  I would love to collect some data from the Mass Effect playing community - if you would all be so kind as to fill out this very breif survey!

Due to the difficulty of getting this filled out in a "private" manner - unless you want to copy/paste/PM me - which is fine too! - I would ask that you not read the answers preceeding yours before responding and not edit your answers after.  The hope is that you will answer these off the top of your head.  

To be honest, the class I put this to answered all over the map and I am hoping I will get more usable data from this community.  I may come back and refine the instructions if answers are way off of what I am expecting.

Thank you thank you to all who participate, I know these can be a little annoying, but I swear it's for the furthering of our media in academia and that my paper is a positive affirmation of our hobby by examining how it enhances the players' scope of thinking.


Oh dear, copy paste technical issues - fixing!

Instructions:  Please respond to the description cluster with the group that comes to mind - preferably the group from Mass Effect games, but RL group answers will also be accepted - or you could answer in both manners.

1)  Criminal behavior, violent, low intelligence, strong, unstable, low moral standards

2)  Without a homeland, compared to vermin, resource hoarders, thieves, loyal to their own first and foremost, secretive

3)  Emotional, sensative, crafters of compromise, physically weak, use looks to manipulate

4)  Job stealers, recent arrivals, entering in large numbers, manipulate the system

5)  Great at Math and Science, timid, infatuated with technology, reserved, logical

6)  Militant, strict codes of conduct / severe punishment for breaking them, men dominating public sphere

I hate bumping my own stuff but there's no chance anyone will help by filling this out if no one sees it. Please give a girl a hand here - it will only take a few minutes! Or! If anyone has some suggestion on a better way to get this kind of data I am totally open to hearing it.

I don't quite understand your questions.

What do you mean by "group that comes to mind"?

Let's see if I understood this properly.
1) Batarians
2) Quarians
3) Asari
4) Human
5) Salarians
6) Turians

As I see it, these questions are each aiming towards one specific race in the ME galaxy - even though each group description has like one or two attributes which aren't necessarily true.

Yes, thank you Sauruz that's it exactly. I had to stretch the lines to include some stereotypes held for real life groups - my contention is that some groups in some games can serve as metaphorical representations of real life co-culture groups and that it would be worth looking into by study if the attitudes of players change towards the real life co-culture groups after interacting with the fictive game groups that have some common elements.
