My advice: Get a group of friends together, and THEN try Gold. Training on Gold with friends who accept that you won't be doing well is far easier than playing with randoms. My current group of friends couldn't even play FBW/G/G when I first picked them up, and now i've got them trained and playing Platinum.

So I play on silver and bronze and occasionally gold but mainly silver. My n7 is 2070. Lately I seem to get messages or told that I'm a loser for playing on silver, I hardly ever top the scoreboard. I'm in my 40's and I like to play and not hinder my teammates, but lately I've been thinking about quitting since I guess I'm playing on lower difficulty Lvs than I should be. My question is do I quit or move up to gold and platinum and have my squad mates carry me every game or stay were I'm at and tell the dirtbags to stick it? Ty and sorry for how this post may look, I know hardly anything about computers
You say you know your limitations.
That`s more than what most other players are capable of.
Don`t even care about those random messages.
I got a "XXXX OFF" message for not saving a guy from Phantom Sync kill.
I don`t care.
Can I even save somebody from phantom synckill?
you can but it either requires a missile, a stagger weapon/ability, or dumb luck...or some combo of the three. With a phantom it's hard to stop her sync in time. That b**** is quick about it.

Never on PC have I received any negative response in PC except over mic in match when this player kept getting downed going for a objective in the middle of dagger when we were down to 3 since start of wave. He said me and other shouldn't be playing at that level (NVM I had him topped in my first match using crusader 1 to try it out.) He goes down 3rd time I go down get it my first try and revive him after. Blames others for his shortcomings. We were killing as fast as we could. He has an obligation to clear the area before settling down too.

Silver is the middle ground. Anyone can play it and just 1 good player can carry the entire team if you fall, without it being a horrible slog for that guy (unlike gold or worse platinum).
Unless it's Collectors or the Geth are being particularly blatant cheats
Silver collectors are ok as they are easier than gold reapers, though in truth, it is harder than silver cerberus or silver reapers. I played silver for many of the challenges and finishing up a silver wave 9 or 10 alone isn't too bad. If you have lag and is not stagger immune, geth on any difficulty can be bad though.
Anyway, those who are full of high level stuff shouldn't stay on bronze as they would deny any newbies (are there any left?) the chance to do much. Gold is not a good place to be if you're not able to handle it and worse still if you go into platinum without being able to output damage in spades. Platinum deadweight is a facepalming affair. Thats why silver is the best meeting ground for both newbies and veterans alike. No one should be prevented from playing silver.

Silver usually always fits the bill though. Much more fun than the rest I think.

i have and still do but with the resent games having been released its not easy to get them together for a gold game. Maybe I've misrepresented myself a little, it's not like I'm completely stupid and can't play gold but I'm just not going to top the scoreboard or carry round after round and I find that a lot of random players are playing above their difficulty lv and since I'm not going to be able to carry a lot that I stick to silver were I can.ToLazy4Name wrote...
You've got my respect for playing on Silver and Bronze when you don't feel you'll do good on Gold. Shows that you're a smart player.

Pssht. Play silver and be proud. Block who ever sends you those nasty messages and give them reviews (I know Xbox has this feature).
This game is meant to be enjoyed. Why force yourself do something you don't like or are not suited for because of what a couple of bozos said?
This.
I've been more or less stuck at the Silver skill level since the last patch. My ventures into Gold require shield-heavy units with Cyclonic modulators to compensate for my slower reaction time compared to a 19 year old videogame god. Level III Cyclonic Modulators do not grow on trees. My supply is finite. Gold games do not guarantee payout, so my supplies must be restocked with Silver game payouts. My only hope for getting that Lone Wolf banner is a maxed out Kroguard set against the Geth. Even then, it's only worked out once so far after a dozen or so tries.
There is only one thing drawing me to Gold: The Mass Effect challenge. I can't get it without playing a bunch of gold games, another 16 or so of which must include an extraction. It will be painful.
.......and why do I want to want to say "Cyclonic Modulator" with Marvin the Martian's voice? Am I alone in this?

I know I used to think even Bronze was crazy, but I eventually ended up doing Platinum runs on a regular basis (before the recent change anyway; now I'm back down to Gold because there's no way in hell I'm surviving Platinum Collectors without getting carried and revived constantly and that would be me burdening the team). I still find Gold challenging now and have a slightly worse extraction rate on Gold now than Platinum pre-change, but meh: Bronze is too easy and Silver is almost as hard as Gold but less rewarding, so Gold it is. If I weren't so rusty I might be a better Gold player, but as it is, I'm not particularly good at co-op multiplayer as this is the first one I've really played.
But point being, I wouldn't even be able to play Gold if I hadn't first made that giant leap to Silver way back when: I used to play Bronze for the longest time just because I didn't think I was ready for Silver, but once I made the move up, I eventually got the nerve to try Gold and while it took some games being carried to really get used to it, I don't think I could go back to Silver except to play with classes/weapons I'm still unfamiliar with.
And honestly, I find Silver almost as hard as Gold, that I don't really notice much difference between the two. The transition from Bronze to Silver is a lot greater than Silver to Gold (Gold to Platinum is another story now, though).
But you know what? It's your free time and your game, feel free to play it at whatever difficulty you feel like.

It could also be a case of you play better than you think/realise and Gold may be the next step. Its not all about points in a Co:Op game if you support the team and help out points are secondary if you ask me there will always be a lowest point scorer in every match that doesn't mean they didn't help get the team through.

I've been playing tons of silver for challenges, and with some of the weapon challenges I've been coming up pretty low on the scoreboard, but I don't care about that, and haven't been getting any flack from other players either. It could be because I either host, or if I PUG then I usually drop out of the lobby after one match unless its a good crew or if I'm playing with friends. Also, when I'm spamming less than desirable weapons and scoring lower, I at least stay alive, help with objectives, revive others etc.

Knowing your limitations/playing level/comfort zone is great, and it's great that you worry about burdening your teammates. But you shouldn't be afraid to try the harder difficulties: they may seem daunting at first, but if you're someone who likes to tackle a challenge, you should definitely consider it. At this point, I don't really care if the team wipes anymore, even on Gold, if everyone tried their best. It only irks me when it's obvious people aren't trying or they're just on Gold to leech, but if you're really interested in learning, you should definitely give it a chance.

excellent post
gold is not that bad once you get used to it (or have a good mentor)
me and my main ME3 friend take noobs under our wing all the time for gold runs.
another great way to ready yourself for gold is to take a few solo runs.
it is not important that these are successful.
the important thing is learning patience as well as spawn and kiting mechanics (and do not panic when there is alot of enemies).
you will be running successful golds in no time.
I became VERY comfortable on gold after a few solo runs.

After playing BLOPS2 it never ceases to amaze me at the amount of hate that some spotty kid feels they have the right to spew at you when you outplay them. Saying ' take it on the chin' doesn't lessen the fact that its unpleasant and annoying. Woe betide my lads if i catch them hiding behind the internet to insult people.
Play the level you are comfortable with and enjoy. It is your game and your time. Try not to let others ruin it for you. Not all of us console players are petulant children.

2. Then when your feel as your too good for Silver and it is easy try gold a couple of times
3. Stick with your team mates
4. Don't rambo it
5. Always use equipment

I'll do gold from time to time to see how i stack up, and i'm actually decent at that level...(i've held my own a few times when my team has wiped) but i find myself having the most fun at Silver which in difficulty terms probably goes along the lines of..
Bronze = Easy
Silver = Normal
Gold = Hard
Platinum= Very Hard
My advice?.... play your position and stay in yer lane....
