POLL: Am I a bad person?

So I'm pretty much just interested in maxing my rares right now, and since I've finally gotten to the level where I don't really need  consumables to compete on Gold, I've stopped using them. You can see in my manifest that I hardly have any, and the reason is I only buy PSPs. I'm saving my limited supply for times when I need to boost a character/weapon I'm using for challenges, but otherwise I only put on gear for Gold matches.

There have been some threads recently about this, but I wanted to see some numbers so here's a poll. I have a bunch of excuses and rationalizations, but really it's just selfishness as I can't make myself spend money on JEPs when those 33,000 credits could be going toward a PSP. So I apologize to anyone who plays with me! By the way, I haven't had a kick vote put on me yet for doing this, so perhaps that's tacit agreement of my actions?

"I've finally gotten to the level where I don't really need consumables to compete on Gold"

What does that statement mean exactly? And is the reason that people equip consumables because they "need" them?

No reason to not use them if you have them. I used to not equip them while pugging when my Internet used to disconnect a lot, but really even level 1 stuff will speed up matches. Level 3 and 4 makes things go by a lot faster and unless you use a lot of the same equipment it is easily replenished.

Yeah you are. You're also bad if you haven't used at least one missile during a gold game.

I don't equip anything until I reach lobby waiting for a match. I don't want to be thrown into a game that is complete disaster and waste my consumables for something that doesn't have any payback coming. If others are putting something on, I'll also do it, otherwise I feel bad about it. If not, well then I'm not putting anything either.

I use them because it allows me to kill things faster, be a better team player and because most of them are awesome. Why you would "gimp" yourself by not equipping consumables on gold is beyond me.

edit: I use lvl 3/4 equipment every match and I can't use them all.

Not bad, unless you don't regularly expect to succeed. If you check my manifest, you'll see that I have 70+ of every level IV consumable except Cyclonic Modulators and a boatload of level I,II, and III stuff (except some weapon amps), so with many characters, it's less about need than about having a bunch of everything and wanting to augment my ridiculously aggressive playstyle in the vague, distant hope of needing less than all 6 medigels one match, and to generally make matches go faster.

If you go to Platinum, though, you should really use equipment. Not like there's anything else to save them for.

bad najzere!!!
I think I played a match with you last night (on ps3 right?).
I never kick as I give anyone a chance.
I am used to carrying people, so it really doesn't matter to me in all honesty.

OP thinks a bit too highly of themselves. Not needing consumables on gold, uh. No one needs them. People do it so the match goes more smoothly.

Why are you limiting yourself? There is no reason not to use them.

Just means I feel like I'm pulling my weight (at least 80K contribution). And yes, the "need" before was because I didn't want to feel like a liability in a match.

I use my in-game consumables, no problem there.

Yes you should use them, at least one.

Not many people need them per se, but it does speed up the match generally.

I am gun shy when it comes to using consumables because I hate losing them when the host rage quits.

If you are referring to consumable equipment, there is little reason to use anything but ammo an Gold if you can handle yourself. If you're one of the people who don't use medigel on objective waves, on the other hand, you should feel bad.

I voted yes, but that is because I take it for you to mean Consumables (missiles, medigel, ops packs, thermal clips), as opposed to Equipment (rail amps, power amps, ammo power).

It doesn't matter if you decide to not use equipment, but it would be rude to not have consumables.

Protip spend 5K and get recruit packs for two consumables plus level 1 equips. No excuse to have nothing for gold games.

I did the PSP route to power and always made sure to carry gels and rockets into the match. Wave 10 by itself pays for the JEP and failing before then is a loss that too many are willing to tolerate even for using one measly gel.

Yes you are a burden on your team when you purposely don't have or don't use equipment to maximize yuor gain. it comes at their expense and it's called leeching.

If your loudout doesn't really need ammo effects to benefit you (like setting up tech bursts/fire explosions) and you still deal enough damage to be useful and helpful then it doesn't matter.

Yes bad. If the entire lobby wants to go naked, then thats fine. If not, you basically asking others to use their stuff to cover you. Scoring 80k doesn't matter. I have detonated people's bursts getting them a lot of points while they camp. I have also seen people act suicidally and get 80k but needing others to pick them up every wave.

Sorry for the confusion, I am talking about equipment (Ammo, Armor and Weapon consumables) not in-game consumables (Medi-Gel, Missiles, etc.). Changed the title to reflect that.

Okay, well now I do feel guilty. I probably won't start putting on equipment, but I will feel bad when I don't now. Thanks everyone!

Out of curiosity... how would a lobby that you've just been randomly matched into "know" that you'll pull your weight without consumables?   The dozens of times I've been told that (and even more grandiose things about the player's skill) have resulted almost exclusively in the person scoring last or rage quiting halfway through when they suck.  Only a single random person lived up to their boast in the last 6 months of almost exclusive gold play for me.  Investing in the match with consumables shows me that you're putting something on the line for the team and are willing to spend extra via medigels and rockets to get the job done.  If I'm hosting a game (which I only do when I play with a friend) and a player doesn't want to equip up, they either get booted or the lobby doesn't start.  If I'm just randomly joining matches myself, I'll leave lobbies where no one wants to equip until I find one where people are already doing so.  My completion rate has gone significantly up whereas my douchebag encounter rate has gone significantly down.  Are there people who can score 1st without anything in gold?  Sure.  Is there anyway you can tell them apart in the lobby from greedy idiots who will rage quit wave 2?  Absolutely not.

You say that you've never been kicked for it but I also see that you play on the least populated platform (the PS3).  I've seen a bunch of complaints here about a lack of players on PS3 in general so maybe something is better than nothing in the eyes of random gamers simply looking to play.  The general sentiment seems to be gaining alot of traction over on the xbox side though.

My view: as long as you can handle yourself and work for the team and use the in-game consumables when needed, I'm fine. Not great, but fine.

Be sure to put a gear on though, or you'll get my kick vote ;)

You are bad and you should feel bad.

There's absolutely no reason to not buy JEPs even for someone who is still leveling up his rares. Two Gold games with extractions will net you 165k credits IIRC if you had good times on objective waves, which allows you to buy 5 Jumbos.

I'd stay the Hell out of anything other than Gold/Geth/Firebase White games until you max your rares, and play on Silver the remainder of the time, because, you know, you are cheap.
