I am curious as to how the OP arrived at the conclusion that he doesn't need equipment to play Gold. From his Map and Spectre Masteries, he has played less than 20 Gold games (there were more Silver and Bronze games than Gold) since Retaliation - out of which there were 15 extractions and 4 which did not make it.

I have a better extraction rate than that and I always use equipment.

LoL, nice to see some claims backlashing.

edit: also, it's possible there were less than 15 extractions.

I do like the challenge of not using equipment AT ALL in gold but with a surplus of it and relying on AP rounds for my ARs I'm gonna say you should put it on.
It's not about needing it, it's about it being in the game to optimize builds.

If I feel like doing this (and I have taken level 1 no equipment characters into gold), I simply start a public lobby and start the game and solo the first wave. By the time Wave 1 is over, people have joined me. If you score reasonably well and extract, no one will be annoyed afterwardsImage IPB

But yes, if you join a lobby, given how much equipment the game dishes out, I thinks its reasonably polite to stick some on.

I would not start the match unless you suited up or left. You wanna be cheap? Do it on your own time. I'm trying to finish matches in <20mins with no failures.

It's no problem if you don't mind potentially good players coming into the lobby, looking at your load out and then leaving. We have enough beefs on here about bad pugs, bad load outs and such and yet some of the really good players assume everyone knows they are elite and thus can enter the match with a tooth pick and band aid.

i've seen it go both ways. some of you non-equippers do just fine in the rooms. but in my experience, that's a rarity. usually those who don't equip go into the room, die, refuse to gel, then b**** on the mic when i don't do a suicide run to res them. then they rage quit. i'm going out on a limb and saying that this also is the experience of most people who eqiup.
hence the complaint threads.
feel like starting a new one now, actually...

I don't care if you can do gold without equipment, you will do better with it so there is no reason to not use it.

Of course no console players are going to put a kick mark on you. They have no common sense.

There's really no reason to save them. If you use them, you're going to make money faster, and you won't hold back the whole team as much.

Unless you're using a power class, I wouldn't want you in my lobby, but I never kick anyone.

If you are playing alone... no one cares
If you are playing with friends... its based on your friends
If you are playing a pug... then yes you are being bad... especially if all have placed equipment on.

Consumables can make a huge difference on your build if selected properly. So if you chose not to use them you're just gimping yourself. It's kinda like purposely entering a lobby with a character that isn't level 20, and/or with low level weapons (URs excepted).

If you're fine with that, can handle yourself anyway and are having fun not playing your char at full power, then there's no problem about it. But not everyone is supposed to know how well you perform in game just by seeing you in the lobby. So it's inevitable some will think, rightly or not, that you're not willing to do your best for the match and thus will think twice before playing with you.

I always gear up for gold before searching for a match. I go into every match expecting myself to contribute and I expect the same from my mates.

I kick players from lobbies with no gear because I want to improve my chances for extraction. If I get a slight smell of someone becoming a burden, I either kick or I leave for another lobby.

There are exceptions, of course, depending on their class and weapons. Last night we kicked a gold player who readied up with a Predator X and no gear. That was a no brainer.

I have a better extraction rate than that and I always use equipment.

I don't always extract, but I'm in it for the credits, so I consider a wave 10 objective completion to be a success. Anyway 15/19 (about 80% extraction) is pretty good for Gold PUGs and around what I experienced when I used equipment. Like I said, I haven't seen any change. As for the low amount of Gold matches in total, if you recall the op before Retaliation was a promote event, so from Retaliation to now I've been leveling my guys back up to 20 (and I'm still not done). Just goes to show how little time I have to play, another reason why I want to maximize my credits.

On another note, regarding the earlier discussion on what is a score that means someone was pulling their weight, I was able to get one game in (Javelin SI) since I started this topic, and the results confirmed my gut feeling, which is that around 80K is satisfactory. Here was the score breakdown:

P1 139,560
P2 86,778
P3 80,288
P4 71,712

For a total score of 380,338, one quarter of which would be about 95K. The thing about dividing the score evenly is that sometimes taking less score allows someone else to get a bigger score, but overall makes the match better. For instance, P3 was a Volus and did most of the reviving. Also, disregard the time—when I came into the match there were two other guys, me and one guy were already dead on the LZ when I got control and the host quit a bit later. I don't know how long he was in there for that first wave, so I don't know how much of that time should be disregarded, but it seemed like a normal length match to me (somewhere in the 25–30 minute area).

"...since I've finally gotten to the level where I don't really need consumables to compete on Gold, I've stopped using them." ROFL
i dont see whats problem to use cons.equipment,in psp.At least for ammo, and that drop in psp more often than weapon,so use it,also cobras at least 1,but that depends on situation on field.but when you play pug its always a lottery.i like to gear my self to max so i can make my life easier

Slightly surprising results, 65% think you are a bad person. Interesting...

For the record, I don't think you're a bad person OP, I never use consumables on Gold either. If I'm playing with friends / Legionnaires there's no need, if I'm playing with pugs then I dont want to risk wasting equipment on a team that could wipe at any time. I only use consumables for soloing or Platinum games

Any somewhat decent player with decent guns doesn't need consumables to play gold. What is the point anyway?

I'm sorry to say, but you're just being dumb. If you used consumables your games would end quicker and you'd achieve more extractions, which would translate to more credits - your final objective.

Anyway, if you happened to be in one one my lobbies (where everybody use at least some kind of ammo) and you readied without equipping anything, you'd be kicked for sure.

Fair enough.  btw you do get credits for extraction.

Max out your commons and uncommons first using recruit and vetern packs and you'll have plenty of level 1 and 2 equipment have use. There is no excuse to not use at least lvl 1 equipment, even if it's only soemthing like cryo ammo, adren, stabilization, or even a strength mod. Always put something on.

Some of us have been playing since release, maxed everything but URs before the first DLC, and used all of our lvl 1 / 2 equips as of months ago.  Check my n7hq.  Anything III or higher is Platinum-only.

Gold minus equip/ammo approximates Platinum difficulty in terms of damage required to down a given mob.  I primarily play Platinum, but when I play Gold I play deliberately without equip/ammo - because the handicap keeps you sharp for the higher difficulty.

If you want to progress, correctly, the right way would be to start in Silver w/equips, then work up to Silver without equips, at which point you can probably handle Gold w/equips, then work up to doing Gold without equips, at which point you might not be dead weight on Platinum.  See how that works?  You guys are gimping your progression.

Aside: So you would like to see a strength mod on my Salarian or Geth Infiltrator?

I'm clearly not missing anything by not playing with you.

You're not bad, but you should still use equipment anyway. For a while into my gold career I never used equipment, yet there was hardly ever a game where I wasn't top scorer. I never needed equipment. I still don't but I use equipment anyway now because of three reasons:

1) It shows randoms how invested you are into the game. When i'm not playing with friends and nobody else puts on equipment I won't either, Nor will I medi-gel before waves 8-10. If nobody else is invested, why should I be?

2) Some playstyles depend on equipment. My Drellguard uses a Talon III with Cryo Rounds. Without the Cryo explosions i'm constantly settings off i'd constantly be getting overwhelmed. Without the cryo rounds freezing my enemies i'd be downed in a second due to squishiness. I find the Argus lacking without incendiary rounds. Why should I use three bursts to take down an enemy when one or two plus the fire effect is enough?

3) It makes the game go faster. I'm already competent without all these bonuses, why not augment my playstyle to make myself even better.

4) It's fun. I was running out of steam for this game when suddenly Cryo and Fire explosions can be detonated every time. Cryo explosions galore! Incendiary rounds are suddenly really, really fun! Phaeston on Gold would be a pain to use, but suddenly Targeting VI III makes it not feel like a chore! Falcon with ammo effects plus Overload with chainload? Look at those lights, light up the night! Whoo!

"Hold back with those, who hold back from you."

Yes you are the a bad person, and you represent the worst in team mate for a team game. You and those like you are the main reason I leave a lobby. You and you kind are those who leave in the middle of a mission, and make the mission take long longer than it should.

A Samuel L Jackson quote comes to mind when I come across you kind in ME3, and there are many like on to you. I make no effort to save such team mates, I consider them as cannon fodder, and distraction for the enieime how ever brief there time in actual play.

LOL! :o:lol:;):P:)

It's all good gamer, but when it comes to the team and 30 minutes to hour of game time, "If you in for penny, you in for a pound." Use eqiupiment FTW!!
