I have not had the energy to map out the various merchants in the game and check buy/sell prices. Is there much variation in the game? What merchants have the lowest prices for purchases? Pay the most for sold items? Has anyone written an article on this topic that you can point me too? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know all merchants buy items at the same price. Their wares, however, can vary between vendors, typically by a few silver or copper. The bartender and the Gnawed Nobel Tavern offers some competitively priced alchmeical ingredients but as far as armor or weapons are concerned I have no idea mostly because I never considered buying any other than the unique ones of course and in those there is no choice.

The camp merchant has the highest prices. Most merchants buy for the same amount but, if you are a Dwarf Noble, Gorim will buy for twice as much. I think the Dwarf merchant you save from the thugs in Orzammar has the best prices on the stuff he sells, but he has a limited inventory, the Sacavenger Faryn also has some good prices on things. Bella will give you stuff for free if you put her in charge of the bar in Recliffe (but you can't sell to her so no using her as storage). I don't know of any merchant price guides.

How do you put Bella (the waitress there right?) in charge of the Tavern in Red Cliffe? I need to stop buying from he camp merchant, he is so convenient he has been getting most of my business! I hate to see what he charges without my "discount"!

Best prices (especially for auto-scaling your items) comes from the guy who introduces you to Warden's Keep (Something Drydan) once you've cleared it out. His cousin sells all kinds of armor which are scaled as well. There is also a party storage chest. DLC is very much worth it.

You have to threaten Lloyd into defending the village. It's not worth it solely for the store because there are only a few items in her inventory (consumables) and they are not restocked.thelebk wrote...

My attributes were too low to get him to defend. One of the annoying things about most RPG's os they only allow the main PC to use his social skills, and they are completely worthless for other NPC's to take. This means the main PC has to spend lots of skill slots/points buying these capabilities which make much more sense for other players to have instead. The only game where other party members social skills etc matter that I have seen is NWN2 Storm of Zehir. Unfortunatley, that is a very mediocre game with souless NPC's.

I think there is little enough difference between most merchants to make it not worth worrying about. I think Bioware were trying to de-emphasise the profiteering side of the game a little. Early on I tried to save some money but I finished the game with 200 gold spare so it hardly mattered.
