Hey guys, already played through DA one time, and the first time I had Alistair and Anora get married and killed Loghain, etc.. This time playing through I was wondering if it was possible to have both of them marry and be king/queen, but Keep Loghain alive(to use as the "Grey Warden Marytr" when it comes to killing the arch demon in the end)
Obviously Alistair would leave my party, but is it possible to that in the PC version?

Personally I don't want to kill off my character in the end, and I didn't want to do the "ritual" with morrigan again.. lol

I think this outcome is completely possible but it requires that Alistar be 'hardened' via his personal quest.

If your persuasion is maxed out then you can keep Loghain a live and convince them to marry. :) It's a tough check though, and I'm pretty sure you need to harden Alistair.

Yep, what they said. Alistair WILL leave, but you should be able to have them rule together. I would imagine you'll need max coercion and a good cunning score as well, but that's a guess since I haven't gone that route.

hah, basically its impossible to be a nice guy and keep all your friends... If you don't want anyone to die, then morrigan has to do the ritual and dissapear forever... If you keep Loghain alive Alistair freaks out, unless you "harden" him. Then if you keep morrigan around, either you or your grey warden companion has to die.. Thats messed up! lol

How do you harden Alistair through his personal quest?

Wait till he meets his sister Goldanna. When you go outside he will talk to you about her, if you choose "Everyone is out for themselves", he will be hardened (become more independent, develop a spine, be a bit more tough). If you choose any other response, he won't be hardened.

Kinda making me not want to play through again now haha

No, Allister will leave the Wardens period if Loghain is left alive

Well I made Anora execute him and you can't imagine what Alistair said before being dragged naked by the guards.*

He says something like "Who is this viper that replaced my fellow Grey Warden?"

One of the funniest dialogue options there is when Anora proposes executing Alistair, you can either plead for his life, grudgingly agree that his death is for the good of the kingdom, or say "It's about time!" (Sadly the latter two options seem to have the same outcome)

Is it possible to make Alistair king, keep Loghain alive and send Anora to the tower?

if I make alistair king for anora

spared loghain in the landsmeet and let him sacrifice himself

is alistair still my friend? or won't I see him at the end? I did like him, but I needed loghain to take the final blow without any demon babies

You can still be friendly with him if you do all that, he talks to my Dwarf noble after I sacrificed Loghain to the Archdemon and said something along the lines of he isn't angry at me any more but wishes things had been different.

Yes, you can.
You've to harden Alistair in his personal quest by replying something like : "everyone are out for themselves".
So when you will spare Loghain at Landmeet, Alistair will go berserk and force Anora to marry him.

I am actually doing this in my second playthrough, if I knew about this stupid ritual, I would've harden Alistair in my first playthrough. :bandit:

a couple different options depending on your PC.  If you did the Human Noble origin where you are the Cousland then you have the option at the Landsmeet to propose to Alistair on the spot after Loghain is executed.  He will agree if he loves you. Depending on the level of his affection (Friend/love) the persuade is more or less difficult but the option is there if you are just friends too.

If you are anything other, Mage, elf, dwarf you CAN"T marry him hardened or not, love or not.  The only way to marry him then is to make Anora queen and Alistair and you stay in your relationship.  If you have a high enough persuade and say to him in the cutscene following something like "No one can tell the king what to do:" and then the persuade option pops up saying something like "Being king isn't a punishment".  He will then apologize for trying to break off with you and you get to tell him he has to earn your forgiveness hehe for a rather sweet comeback on his part.  This still won't let you marry him but you get to stay on as his mistress. He MUST be hardened though for you to have this option.

Take Morrigan's ritual is the only way you can keep yourself and Alistair alive and in your party. otherwise, one of you dies, and if you take him along to the final battle, and he's in love, it will be him whether you want him or not.

This is so screwed up! I don't want to kill Loghain, but I don't want to lose Alistair either...

There is one thing that's been bugging me for a long time. Can't find an answer to it anywhere.

What happens if you: Kill Loghain, make Alistair king and let him rule alone (thus imprisoning Anora) and then sacrifice Alistair? Then Ferelden will have no regent at all. I know it is possible to do this allthough I've never tried myself.

Anora is released from the tower and becomes queen.
