I was recently reading the wikia page for The Inquisition and thought it would be cool to discuss.

The Inquisition was a group of people who, following the First Blight, rose up to defend Thedas
from the dangers of magic and heretics. The Inquisition later joined with the Chantry and became the Seekers of Truth and the Templar Order.

Around the time that the Chantry was established at the beginning of the Divine Age, Thedas was plunged into chaos. The First Blight had ended, the Imperium had broken apart following Andraste's March, and blood mages and Old Gods cults were widespread. The Inquisition was formed with the goal of protecting the people from the tyranny of magic in whatever form it might take; blood mages, abominations, cultists or heretics. The group combed the land in search of these threats and some say theirs was a reign of terror.

In 1:20 Divine, the newly founded Chantry found common cause with the Inquisition and they signed the Nevarran Accord. As part of the agreement, the Inquisition was replaced by the new martial arm of the Chantry, the Templar Order, and another group to watch over the newly formed templars, the Seekers of Truth. Another result was the creation of the Circle, with the templars serving as wardens for the Circles.

Do you think a similar situation (Thedas plunging into chaos) could arise after the events of Dragon Age 2? How do you think the Inquisition could rise again?

Does this also mean that the PC could be forced to be against Mages?

Yes.

Kicking ass and taking names?

Unlikely.

Nope. This may be the group that is faithful to the Divine. She tolerate mages.

Divine tolerate mages (Read Asunder). Maybe the Inquisition is a group that is faithful to Divine?

My own gut feeling is that the Inquisition is connected to Empress Celene.

The Empress - missing (Orlesian Civil War).

"While most of the Celene's closest allies are occupying the capital, it is unclear where the Empress is staying. There have been rumors of that she is being held captive, that she was dead, or that she is staying at Jader with her army".

I definately have a gut feeling that our character will be related to the Chantry in some way. Either as an agent of the divine like Cassandra or a pro templar. Just my guess however.

Asunder pretty much confirmed that the Inquisition will likely be the right hand of the Divine as the Templar Order has ruled the Accord that bound the Chantry to them as anull. in the book. The Chantry will need a new enforcer now. I'm willing to bet that Cassandra and Leliana will probably assist you as they remain loyal to the Divine despite schism.

The question of whether we will be forced to support the chantry/templars/mages/whatever has been answered multiple times... right here by Gaider himself.

My own suspicion (and that's all it is) is that with the destruction of the Circle of Magi and both the mages and Templars breaking away from the chantry, a new Inquisition will be formed, with the PC being influential in its creation.

This group may end up be pro or anti-mage of walk the line, depending on your input.  It may or may not have Chantry support, or Tevinter's chantry (their own CIrcles operate very differently than those in other parts of Thedas, after all)

The official synopsis released by EA was pretty clear about why the Inquisition is rising again:

"A portal between the worlds unleashes hords of demons in the land, civil wars rip apart nations and the corruption is limitless. Someone is behind the shadows, drawing the threads which destroy the world. Time has come for the Inquisition."

Pretty badass, if you ask me. And also very interesting when you star thinking about the possibility of a pro-mage Inquisitor (that has been kind of confirmed by Gaider himself).

It's not official. There's nothing official about DA3 but the title, and some game features (voiced protagonist, dialogue wheel, human-only PC). Though it might be the plot of DA3.
And the "badass" part, if the plot will be this, will depend from the execution. The plot isn't too different from DAO's plot. In DAO we had hords of darkspawns lead by the Archdemons, that threatens to destroy the world, with a civil war in Ferelden, and the Grey Wardens that have to save the world. The only "new" part in the DA3 possible plot is the person (or group) that is responsible for the chaos. I don't see much differencies.

Allright, not confirmed, I get it. But it's pretty likely at least? No? Don't lynch me!
