But anyways the quick search options throws me into games on the other side of the world and the lag is absolutely terrible... Connection to Russia or the US west coast is below playable levels too

Bear in mind folks, that all of the ping and speed tests are probably hitting servers at datacentres (i.e the the tests are showing home <-> datacentre connection quality). You'd need to add more latency/packet loss for connections to the host player which get routed through exchanges and dslams.

In addition, unless you live alone, the home connection is likely to be shared among members of the household - so there's more latency and packet loss to consider.

My connection is okay. Could be better, but no one wants to shell out the money for a fiber optic connection but me and I'm not paying for everyone. Plus my modem and router are kind of old and like to cut out at random for no reason, usually during wave 9 or 10 on gold.

They dont seem to lag, as I dont see them instantly ragequit from lobby after a match :innocent:

You shouldn't  complain too much. Even with your bad connection and all the lag you are still able to outscore me 99% of the time

Which explains why I haven't been able to stay connected to Live lately and have been using some unsecured connection instead of my actual one. F**king Comcast.

Don't think theres a way to check on consoles but there is nothing worse than comming into a game mid wave where a person with terribad connection was host -- its only you and him and enemies literally jump all over the screen. I don't mic on pugs but i will always plug in for them and tell them they shouldnt host, ever, then I leave.
