Would you want a first person camera option for exploring?

I don't think it would really feel right in a point-and-click type of RPG like DA. Maybe a button to shift to first-person from a stationary POV to observe your surroundings would work. Having it be first person strictly for exploration and automatically shifting for combat (and cinematic dialog, presumably) sounds... awkward.

noone mentioned FP for combat. It would be awful and would alienate the game. Just for admiring the enviroments however would be good i guess

It was brought up a number of times on the first page (and in the OP.) The first person camera wouldn't benefit combat other than to maybe let you pause the game and get a good look at the exploding eye candy all around you, so I was thinking you would get bumped back out to the aerial view upon entering combat. You could probably control one character reasonably well from first person by using the targeting button and power hotkeys, but it would be far from optimal (no way to keep an eye out for hunters sneaking up behind your mages.) I agree that I'd really like them to restore the isometric cam that they took out in DA2.

For those that prefered playing third person in Skyrim, keep in mind that that viewpoint was over the shoulder rather than centered on your controlled character, and allowed you to zoom in a lot closer than the dragon age camera does (probably because it doesn't mean blocking your view with the back of your character's head.) A camera like that would let you get a much better look at things. If I had to pick I'd prefer a first person camera option, but a closeup over the shoulder cam like Mass Effect or Skyrim's third person would achieve most of what I'm looking for.

I think I remember reading that a common complaint about Origins was the way you'd suddenly jump out to that isometric cam when trying to zoom out with the orbiting cam, so they fixed it in DA2 by getting rid of it rather than adding another button to switch camera modes. PCs are fine but if consoles have enough buttons, having both a zoom control and a camera mode control would let you switch between 1st, 3rd, floating, and isometric, which would be ideal. I've written camera scripts before, and you do need separate nodes for camera attachment points for first (centered on the head), third (off the shoulder), and orbiting (centered on the body) so the models would need some adjustment, in addition to the code for it. Not a gargantuan amount of work though, assuming you're not going to bother with separate 1st and 3rd person models and animations.

As long as third person view still exists and is supported/designed for it, and the first person view isn't ever mandatory, I'd be fine with people who enjoy first person having the option. I guess it would be good for closer or more varied views of models and the environment, as the OP suggests.

No, I would want to see my character all game. Maybe first person if we need to look at something closer but I'd rather stay third person all game.

I've never liked first person view.
And third-person is better for exploring as you can see your character's footing, etc.

As an option to go to first person when just walking around and not in combat or conversation? Sure. I think even The Old Republic has a first person view option. The more camera options and flexibility, the better.

I don't like first person POV in general, it feels too claustrophobic. I'm too used to being able to look at my character's surroundings without having to turn my whole head or the way I'm facing.

That said, I'm all for giving people more options so they can enjoy the game as they want. If you get your first person POV, I want to be able to move my camera back farther than 10 feet, or others to have the tactical isometric view return from DAO. :D

I would not mind if it was optional.

Not a bad option. I would like to see how a game like Dragon Age turns out with a selectable FP view, it may helps a lot immersion: after all, you ARE seeing the world as your character do when in FP. It's one of the things I love from Bethesda games and from the Far Cry series.
