Yep, as others have said in the thread, I'm not saying that paraphrasing must disappear; what I'm wondering is why is not possible a compromise as Deus Ex HR.
Given the problem with dialogue wheel -two groups of people: the ones who like it, and the ones who dislike it-, why is this solution disregarded? People who like paraphrasing could perfectly ignore the hovering line and read only the synthesis, and people who want to know the exact first line could read both things.
I can understand many decisions BW took with the new direction, but not this one. I don't see any good reason not to try this compromise.
We did test out several alternatives, and found they didn't work-- displaying the full line does not do what some here seem to think it would. In DAO, where the PC did not speak, the full line was 100% of the context needed as that was all there was. That's not the case any more, and more to the point we write the lines differently now that tone plays a role in conveying intent.
There's a longer answer, but it's been given numerous times already in previous threads on this subject-- of which there have been a number. Seeing as rehashing that thread once again, with the same folks popping up to offer the same opinions, I suggest whoever's interested track one of them down if they wish to familiarize themselves with the arguments and/or our responses. When new information on what we're doing in DA3 is available, I imagine more pertinent discussion can be had then.
