I have this problem, but came to look for a fix. I have downloaded DOA 1.03, Downloaded and installed updated video card drivers (Saphire ATI 3870) messed around with low density and dropping to 1024 x 768 all still getting this problem. Video monitor goes to sleep, but game still heard, computer still running. anyone find out what the fix is here?
What temperatures? The 3870 seems very problematic with Dragon Age anyway, but displays simply don't get involved in shutting down, that is done at the video card level from one of two things, and heat probably isn't your problem, although it's worth taking precautions against it (see the link).

after doing some research (see my blog), the problem (for me)
lies with the video card. You have to clean it out and I mean like
taking it out of the cartridge and blowing compressed air until all the
giant dust bunnies come out. put it back in and see that the fan is
working! clean out all the heat sinks and fans and such... you should be
fine after that.
. . . computer probably
has a PSU incompatibility or you need to download new drivers for both
Windows or ATI.
Good luck! tell me what happens
The word "incompatability" is used inappropriately there. The word he needed was "inadrquate". Then, when he says to see about drivers, I doubt that those have any relationship to this problem you have.
Chances are highest that you have inadequate 12 Volt amperage from a low-rated or worn out power supply. The 3870 needs about a 450 - 500 "watt" power supply from a high quality source. A cheap (most brands except about a dozen are "cheap") or low-rated PSU that can run the game at first is losing efficiency as it gets warmer, until it no longer provides the electrical current required. Then the card just shuts down.
