I used to love Minsc and Boo, but now he's seriously getting on my ****** with his non-stop comments about "I won't be so gentle" and so forth. When it is once in a while it's fun and cute, but once a minute - not so much. How can I reduce the frequency of this, or remove it altogether?

I tried to put the sound option in-game to "Never" but that didn't do anything. It's for other sounds I think.

The other characters don't say "random" things nearly as often as Minsc, or is just feels that way, and I have to reduce this or it will become unbearable. When you play the game a lot, it becomes very annoying to hear this every 2 minutes.

Is there really no way to do this? To change how often NPCs say their various lines, to edit a file to prevent or limit this, or to remove or rename files so things aren't being said? I love Minsc, but at the moment he is doing my head in :(

There are a zillion mods out there, can really none of them affect this?

It's a long time since I played the game with sounds, but I don't remember this being a problem. In the sound menu there are options for both command and selection sounds - have you set both to never?

Yes, I've set both those to Never. But it doesn't take away these 'random' comments that seem to be tied to our reputation. The only alternative is to remove character sounds altogether, but that would remove voiced acting, which there is a fair bit of in ToB.

Maybe you could just donate a bit of gold to get your reputation up so Minsc doesn't complain?

It's already on 20. It's his "bragging" that's doing my head in! :D

Suppose I could slay a commoner somewhere, but then I don't know who will start doing my head in. Just wish there was a way to reduce or remove these reputation related comments, as it gets rather annoying when you hear the same line for the 200th time. Why did Bioware decide to bludgeon us to death with those lines? :( I used to love them, but now I just wish Boo would snap Minsc' voice bands in two.

I suppose it's not just the reputation-related comments, but also the area type comments, right?

Like: "A den of stinking evil. Cover your nose Boo, we shall leave no crevices untouched!...(Squeak)"

I started looking at this in Near Infinity - not an expert with it but could see enough to realise more information is needed to understand why Minsc is more vocal than other party members.

1 Is this BG1 (with or without Tales of the Sword Coast) or BG2 (with/without ToB). Or even EasyTutu or BGT. Different behaviours in each. & any mods present?

2 Is your game patched. e.g. BG1 global variable bug could prevent variables relating to Minsc being set. The GOG version is patched, the CD/DVD versions are not.

3 Who else is in your party. His banter looks to increase if certain other NPC's are in the party (won't detail as in no spoilers section).

4 If it is in BG2 have you completed any of the jobs he was "enthusiastic" or "nagging" about (again, no details in this forum).

5 Is this in particular areas of the game or everywhere.

If you can use Shadowkeeper (BG2, EasyTutu, BGT) or SwordCoastKeeper to view a savegame are there any MINSC..... variables, e.g. MINSCGOODREP1, MINSCGOODREP2, MINSCGOODREP3.

It could be that I just notice Minsc' comments more because his are the ones that annoy me the most, not necessarily that he makes quantitatively more comments than the others.

1. It is with BG2. Struggling with the very last fight there now, so I'll manage this playthrough. But I'm already thinking about the next, and unless I can sort this out I don't think I can bare to have Minsc in the party, which is a shame because he is a BEAST with a certain war hammer.
I have some mods, but not a lot. Looking at the weidu.log: BG2 Fixpack, BG2 Tweaks, Widescreen. It's my first time with BG2 so wanted it as vanilla as reasonable (but have bottomless bags, max HP, etc)

2. The game is patched, it's the GOG versions.

3. Illusionist/Thief PC, Minsc, Keldorn, Jaheira, Aerie, Imoen

4. Think I have completed all the jobs he nagged about, as I have done everything we have come across, and I like to look in every nook and cranny in these games

5. I'm in ToB now, but I think it's a general problem. Fairly often he utters his classic (but now madly annoying lines)

6. Doesn't look like anything too relevant in Global variables: Minscberserker, delon, dies, fury, imnesvale, summoned, witch, witchtimer
Quite a lot under Affects, including Minscgoodrep and Minscgoodrep 2 and 3 (all at 1). There is also Minsccomplain (at 1).

Hope this helps. Thanks for looking into it :)

"You're a queer fellow".

"No!. NO! You know what Imoen, F#@! OFF!. Go. Get lost. I'm done. I'm done with you now. 60 Days and you are still CALLING ME THAT! Leave. Give me your gear and FLIP OFF!"

Ahem.

Haha, I'm kind of glad to see somebody else be miffed about this -- but sad to see nobody have a solution. Have just started a new playthrough, and am bypassing the Minsc-problem this time by simply leaving him out and largely going with an evil party. Would be excellent if somebody knew how to fix it though, because those comments by e.g. Minsc for the 1000th time are *very* grating.
