Mass Effect 4: Multiverse Crisis begins with,
If romanced Liara, Shepard wakes up in Thessia to a warm family moment, his twin daughters jumping on him and Liara trying to shut them up to get a little more sleep, but eventually she gives in to her daughters.
If romanced Tali, and Geth were recruited alongside Quarians, Shepard is seen on Rannoch, leaving a court in which he red his report in favor of Geth reactivation. Geth are deactivated completely due to Crucible, and Quarian society is trying to decide whether to try and repair them, or to destroy the bodies.
If romanced Tali, and Geth aren't recruited, Shepard is seen building a cabin in Rannoch, Tali entering the scene to serve him drinks.
Well you get the general idea, introduction of the game depends on who you romanced. If you did not romance anyone, you are having drinks with Admiral Hackett, sharing stories.
Until this point, game is based on the destroy ending. You get information about the situation of Mass Relays, Citadel, EDI and the Geth, depending on where you started the game.
After the introduction, you are given a simple quest, a matter of daily business. While on your way to do it, you see the current situation of the planet you are in, people rebuilding, memorials, tents, military on the streets, sights of cities, depending on your starting place.
But on your way back, screen goes dizzy, civilians who regard you as a goddamn hero get worried but you dismiss them thinking you just ate something bad/or another excuse. Here you have another chance to get information about the situation of galaxy, from the civilians and soldiers around you.
The rest of the introduction depends on your starting area, but storyline is the same. I'm choosing Thessia at this point.
When Shepard gets home, screen goes dizzy again and you start hearing gun sounds, followed by explosions, Shepard yells to Liara to get the kids and he runs to the balcony to see what's happening. There is no daylight in Thessia anymore, there are Reaper forces everwhere and there is intense combat going on as far as you can see. Shepard yells in anger and confusion, starts hearing the voice of Harbinger in his head, who surprisingly thinks he is dead and attempts to question him.
Shepard falls on his knees, covering his ears, but quite suddenly the voice stops. No explosions, no gunshots, it's daylight again,
"Shepard? Is that you?"
He turns back and sees an Asari woman, her skin resembles geth datalines, she has numerous mechanic implants, but he recognizes the face of Liara.
Liara, in shock drops everything she is holding and starts walking towards Shepard. But he, in horror, leaps backwards and starts running to the door.
Trying to struggle with his thoughts, Shepard opens the door yelling "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON", but the door opens to inside of a Reaper, he instantly recognizes where he is, remembering his time on a derelict reaper. One of the blocks turns into a giant eye and looks at him directly, he falls on his knees again, only to see the metalic N7 mark on the Reaper's spikes.
He closes his eyes, giving in to madness, falls unconscious. We see the camera focus on Liara and the kids trying to rush him to a medical center.
From this point on we will take control of Ashley/Kaidan until mid-game. They are fighting;
Rebellious minor Krogan Clans and Blood Pack, they are trying to form a separate and agressive faction on the Reaper-harvested space.(Genophage is cured, Wrex is killed in ME-1)
Whole might of Tuchanka with Blood Pack, trying to get back at Salarians and Humans for the sabotage as rightful revenge.(Genophage isn't cured)
Eclipse and Blue Suns, who contributed only minor support for the final operation in ME-3 and now on the way of having unrivaled military power on the harvested space(Genophage is cured, Wrex is leader)
To cut this part short, mercenary groups do not possess proper spacecraft(not enough to engage a turian/alliance fleet), nor do krogans. However, they manage to salvage some of the dead Reaper shells lying around the galaxy. They cannot get the wepons to function properly; but these shells are perfect transports and they can be armed with inferior cannons manually.
When trying to salvage the riches of a dead colony, one of these vessels enter the control range of a Leviathan
group. More susceptible to mind control in a reaper, they easily become slaves. Leviathans make some adjustments to the shell, making it transmit a signal close to reapers and forcing it to hide.
Signal eventually reaches to Alliance, Turians, Asari and Salarians. Alarmed, they form a joint force to take down this possible reaper. When the forces reach their destination of signal, they are ambushed by the Leviathans. Unable to move.
Leviathan group explains to them that they had to lure them there, being shown the capabilites of this cycle, they
were afraid for their kind considering their resemblence of Reapers. They start to talk spesificly to Kaidan/Ashley, telling that they were contacted by other Leviathans. The problem is, Leviathans they talked to were partly synthetic and no matter what they do they cannot pinpoint their location. They seeked help, because these synthetic Leviathans claim they became that way because of Commander Shepard, their galaxy was superior in every way, peaceful, thriving; and their galactic civilization intends to do whatever it is necessary to "spread their gift to ungifted for the greater good".
Leviathans ask Commander Kaidan/Ashley how much they were familiar of the term multiverse crisis, having too much variables in a supposedly fixed point in time causing parallel universes to emerge. Explaining that most likely after the events with the catalyst, there was more than one possible outcome due to nature of the intelligence they designed. In one of these outcomes, synthetics and organics seem to be merged; and that Leviathans of this "synthesis" outcome, trusting their race's judgement out of pride or some grander scheme, asked for their help to build a passage way to our galaxy.
"It was an incorrect calculation in their part, not for the fondness we feel for you pathetic creatures but we will do no such thing." says one of "our" Leviathans. "To us, it seems these partly synthetic life formed a suprisingly advanced galactic commune, and they want to spread their "gift" to everywhere possible by expanding here".
The rest of the story is up to more experienced writers than me of course. But the main points are,
-There are 4 parallel universes, each for every ending. Destroy, Control, Synthesis and Refusal.
-Main villain of the game is the galaxy of "Synthesis" outcome. Something went terribly wrong there.
-Shepard unintentionally shifts between these realities, causing him mental instatibility.
-We will start playing Shepard again near mid-game.
-You will get the chance to "rework" your choice of ending in Mass Effect 3, either repeating it, changing it, or giving it wider conditions, by a return to a reworked and much better priority-earth mission.
-End of the game will not be a repeated "choose one of 3 colors" , you will expand those choices before the end of the game, at the end, however you will get to choose and ending based on the events of Mass Effect 4, not Mass
Effect 3. Also, it wont be just a pick a card button, your choices in the whole game will affect which options you can choose and how effectively you can apply those options.
-There will be 4 different final missions, you will play one depending on your choice of ending in Mass Effect 3.
So what do you think?
