Ugh, last thing we need is another macho bald guy.

How about a woman this time around? A rogue at that, we've already seen warrior and mage.

We all know a woman as the main marketing character is never going to happen. So, if it has to be a macho bald guy, let's hope is THAT macho bald guy. Freakin' badass.

Terry Crews is not another macho bald guy as he is a god. Plus he's humorous, and a good dancer.

I have no idea who he even is I'll admit. But still, I rather see a woman despite being a dude myself. More importantly, I want a rogue promo character!

For a promo i doubt anyone would mind a female character.

How about something other than a white, unshaven male with brown/black hair for once. That'd be a start.

Not that I don't enjoy seeing him in practically every game ever.

Tbh i'd rather Bioware handle their trailers like what Bethesda did with Skyrim. Which had a mixture of in-game visuals, locales, gameplay, and some cgi, rather than a full on cgi trailer that is not indicative of the final product.

BioWare did exactly that, they just added a CGI trailer to put the emphasis on their story and their main character (and that trailer was one of the best things coming from Dragon Age 2 so I really can't see the problem here).

That being said, Bethesda clearly used a promo character for Skyrim since "the Dragonborn" has a canon appearence.

Like Bayonetta? By far the best appearance design in any video game.

Whatever it is I want to be able to edit it. I always want to customize my appearance to some extent, but in Mass Effect you were either stuck with the exact same male shepard, or Mr. Potatohead (it was easier to come up with a non-fugly femshep at least.) Hopefully this would mean having a character creation system that's able to produce something as high quality as a scanned in head.

I like to think that that's Bioware subtly hinting that FemShep is TrueShep.

Assuming there is a default appearance, for male im currently partial to something along the lines of this:

And seeing what the devs did with default lady hawke, id be fine with whatever they can up with for the female protagonist Posted Image

I don't doubt for a second that there will be a default appearance, used primarily for marketing the way Sheploo, Default FemmeShep, Garrett and Lady Hawke were in their respective games/ series. Not a huge fan of any of them and have never and will in all likelihood never use them.

I will however play OP's little thread game since I enjoy posting images on BSN so much!

I was able to come up with perfectly acceptable Male Sheps, it just took a bit of work. Sadly I can't post screens because I've been playing the series on console and I don't want to take pics of my TV screen and upload those. Too bad BioWare never thought to have a feature similar to the one they have for the Dragon Age games which synch up your characters' stats and appearance (more or less in real-time) with whatever's happening in-game, otherwise I'd just tell you to go look at them.

I always found the trick was the uncanny valley test. Examining my ManShep's by turning the face around in all available directions and asking myself, "Now does that look human?"

If we are talking about Da2's launch trailer, then it has nothing in it including combat that appeared the way it was presented like for the final product. IIRC The only thing in the Skyrim trailer that was dolled up was the cgi nord fighting the dragon, The gameplay, locations, exploration, scripted events were all in game rather than non canon cinematics that didn't appear in the final product.

That male Nord with the horned helmet and the wifebeater, however, was presented in most other promotional material as 'the' Dragonborn, just like Beardikins is 'the' Hawke.

Now i'm confused. I was talking about the validity of Bio's trailers when showing actual in game events rather than the canonicity of the Pc's appearance.

You mean you didn't like ManHawke looking like Jonathan Frakes (Riker in ST: Next Gen) or Sheploo being based on an underwear model?

I kid. When I posted pics I meant characters inspired by the looks of those actors not necessarily carbon copies. In any case I respect your opinion, I posted for fun, and I don't use default character models when I have the choice to customize. I love customization!!! That's why I have used all 20 slots in Saints Row: The Third.

I'll probably just end up using those actors as the basis for characters in Inquisition. I have a mix of completely original and "based upon" characters in Dragon Age: Origins and DA II (using inspirations like Aiden Gillen of Game of Thrones fame as the inspiration for a Hawke rogue, I have a female mage elf based on Julia Stiles; neither is a carbon copy due to the artistic styles and limitations of the creation engine, however I'm very happy with both). One of my BroShep's in ME ended up looking like Jamie Foxx... but completely by accident!

Non-traditional appearance

Default Dude:
Guy with red or ginger hair and emerald-green eyes (commonly used on female characters, not so much on male characters, would really make him stand out), would be more awesome as a two hand warrior or mage (not that class/weapon is important for a default)

Dark skinned male with brown or black hair and eyes of hazel, gold or brown (thinking outside the box a bit here), preferably an archery rogue (but class doesn't matter to me as much)

Default Lady:
Tough blonde with sapphire-blue eyes, a mace/shield and shining knight-like armor or a pair of really badass daggers

Brunette with brown eyes and braided ponytail similar to Bastila Shan, probably a mage or archery rogue

Not that I'll be playing the defaults UNLESS they make him/her really outside the box (no Sheploos, typical Bio beauty tropes, etc...), but just throwing some ideas in for the heck of it.

Shaggy Rogers as a Circle Mage with a cowardly mabari summon.
Conan O'Brien as the sympathetic templar.
Jeff "The Dude" Bridges as a down on his luck apostate... "I just want my magic rug back, man."
Sissy Spacek as a tortured Blood Mage.
