Howdy, I liked the improvements in DA2 with the outfits that had "tails" on them, but with Frostbite do you think we might be able to get cloaks and robes and flowing hair?  It'd be awesome if this is more doable on the new engine.

Also, we could then have a Cloak slot for gear.  :D  I'm in favor of more slots.

They need an engine that supports griffin cloaks made out of long hair and bow strings.

I wouldn't mind the long "realerish" hair, tbh.

I think a cloak slot on the paper doll, is a great idea. I really hope BioWare uses this idea of wearing cloaks.

I believe hair with the ability to flow in the wind, would really set Dragon Age apart from other RPGs. So far DA has only allowed for static hair. If Frostbite can account for this, DA3 would truly feel like a decent game, in spite of flaws it may have.
Flowing hair!<3<3<3

Is it weird to think that this might be an area where they could potentially get a lot of benefit for comparatively little investment?

I guess that depends on how "little" the investment into soft hair/cloaks would actually be.

I imagine the real expense is actually the work to make the flowing/dynamic hair/bowstrings/etc look natural, not simply having an engine with the capability to handle that sort of thing.

Right now the biggest limitation is the hardware restriction from consoles, during the beta for Mass Effect 3 it was mentioned they removed the holster weapon animation to free up memory for other features.

I'm pro cloacks. But alot of the armors in DA2 looked like the guy was wearing a T-shirt with an armor painted on it.

Considering the fact that several games already do these things, using console limitations as an excuse doesn't fly. It all comes down to how much effort thry are willing to put into purely cosmetic features.

Hair is very easy to drop into the Uncanny Valley. I say keep it stylized like Borderlands 2 and give it some basic PhysX animation. Don't try to simulate real hair because we can't.

In terms of cloaks im all for it, SWTOR does cloaks very well, especially robes: It's not perfect and i suspect Frostbite can do it better.

I never said it wasn't possible, I was inferring that they might not put it into the game because they want to include other things into the game instead.  Just because other companies have included it into their games doesn't mean they don't cut other content to their game to fit in flowing cloaks and hair.

Unless it gets stuck in something. I don't think even Batman could look badass trying to yank his cloak free of a tree branch or a door.

Only if they were somehow making the exact same game with the same code and the same engine.

wouldn't mind seeing betterer hair, and allowing for the changes in rigging should stop it from going crazy when the character turns their head too which could be good.

... and if its released for both current gen and next gen consoles? I hardly think that EA are going to cut out an entire demographic they could profit off of. Even with the PC sales of the game, the 360, PS3, and Wii U owners are not people they are likely to snub.

Assuming that DA III is going to be released in Q4 2013 and let's suppose then that the XBox 720 (or Durango or whatever they're going to call it) is released around the same time, the new console is still going to be expensive and not everybody is going to rush out to get the new system right away.

BioWare might like the idea of flowing cloaks and soft hair as much as some of the fans, but at the end of the day it's not something EA is going to care about if it interferes with making money off of a product.

Frostbite handles flags swaying in the wind pretty well in BF3, so it won't be the engine that stops it.

I'm guessing the bigger issue with long hair is constant clipping instead of getting the hair to move. There was already some subtle hair movement in DA2 but the hair was kept pretty short. I'd like more options for long hair but perhaps bigger variety of buns, braids and other tied hairdos would offer the best compromise.

Cloaks and capes? Hell, yeah. But only after they fix those bow strings. I also hope they improve the hair texture. These are small issues but the magic is in details. Hopefully the new engine makes it easier to create these small touches.
