God I hope so. That release alone would make an already amazing 2013 look that much better...

Isn't Obsidian busy with PE right now anyway? I'm fine with Bethesda making it.

I can wait for Fallout 4 if Obsidian makes it. I'd personally rather have Fallout die than be ruined further by Bethesda. Atleast I have Wasteland 2.

We both know that ain't gonna happen. I'm not claiming Bethesda is a leader in innovation, but I still love their games and I guess I don't get the hate when few RPG's offer the breadth of freedom and player action their games do. I barely got 30 minutes into Alpha Protocol because the gameplay and controls were so bad.

I actually preferred F3 over NV myself. NV was a better pure RPG and I liked that about NV. To me though, F3's world was far more interesting. The quests were better and the atmosphere blew away when compared to NV. I guess it helped that it was the first Fallout I've ever played, so I never really cared that it stuck to the original or not. First experiences are always the best. I wouldn't mind Bethesda making F4 more of a pure RPG like NV did. I'd actually prefer that. I guess NV just felt like, "did that, know what to expect" because I went through F3. So, I guess that experience wasn't as great.

I really liked that conversation where you had low intelligence and couldn't make coherent sentences when responding. I seriously lol'd at that. I wish more RPGs still did this today...

Can't wait for FO4.

Regarding third person, Skyrim was a 100% improvement mechanically over Oblivion, and TH did say (@ Quakecon 2011?) that he was surprised how many players actually played in 3rd person, so I can't help but think they will spend alot of time improving TPS aspect in FO4. I could be wrong, but I'd bet on significant improvement.

Personally I think FO at this point lends itself better to a TPS with cover based shooting (which I'm not at all sure they could pull off), but admittedly I don't have a preference either way, as long as VATS-like cinematic kills are fully functional.

Bethesda still needs to improve their TPS in the games. Skyrim was a huge improvement but far from perfect. Especially as an archer. The aiming reticule isn't accurate at all in TPS and it's quite annoying as an archer. The trajectory of the arrows always end up being different from where you're aiming.

I agree, alot of room for improvement. But, to me anyway, I was glad to see that they moved in a positive direction of TP mechanical improvement between ES4 and 5. Here's to hoping that trend continues. TP melee combat was positively horrendous in Oblivion, so I played it mostly in first...which if I'm honest wasn't all that much better.

Seriously. If Beth are making it,  (which they most likely are) this will be my reaction...

Considering Bethesda seems to take their time between releases and doesn't adhere to the typical every 2 year schedule, plus new consoles likely coming next Fall, I wouldn't expect to see Fallout 4 until late 2014 at the earliest.

I enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but prefer New Vegas since the characters and world felt more alive and just more interesting.

I play without the reticule.

I hope so. I enjoyed Fallout 3 and New Vegas a lot. I enjoyed them so much that in fact I was wondering some months ago why I didn't hear anything about Fallout 4.

I have no problems aiming as an archer.  You always had to account for distance in your trajectory.  In Oblivion even more so.

I enjoyed Fallout 3, although I think New Vegas was superior in almost every way.

So yeah, bring on Fallout 4, but steal some ideas from New Vegas.

Pffft, they'll need to steal more than ideas,  lol.   More like steal, Cain, MCA, Sawyer and ditch the Toddler, Hines and those other clowns , if it's gonna be a legit Fallout game

Heh, I think we both know there's no way it's going to be old-school Fallout if it's made by Bethesda. Unfortunately you're going to have to look elsewhere for more of that.

I enjoyed Fallout 3 for what it is. It's not at all in the spirit of the first two, and it's certainly not even Bethesda's finest, but I had enough fun that I would be up for playing a sequel.

And with In-Exile, Larian, and Obsidian you're going to get more than enough old school, turn-based love. Seriously, old school gamers should be declaring a f*cking renaissance instead of moaning about Bethesda creating another Fallout game.

I for one don't want an old school approach to Fallout 4. I want Bethesda's approach. It's more entertaining.

I'd enjoy both but I want Bethesda to do what they are good at instead of failing at something else.

(Assuming they do make Fallout 4) I really hope the repair system isn't quite as punishing as it was in Fallout 3. I hate having to repair so often and having to spend three quarters of my carry capacity on repair weapons. That was what I hated the most in Fallout 3.

I hope they wait a few years.

I prefer Bethesda make it.
While I do think Obsidian made a better story. I feel Bethesda made better exploration.

That is what worries me. There is nothing in Skyrim that I can think of that would  improve for Fallout least of all the perk system. How many outcomes are there for any given quest in Skyrim compared to New Vegas anyway? Even something as small as letting the Rangers in Primm know about their missing drugs is more open ended than the major quests in Skyrim.

Different ways to resolve quests but pretty dull.  Same with the cattle ranch quest you mentioned.  I've only done it once, but for example the Omertas quest is another one where you can resolve it different ways but all in all it just isn't that fun or interesting.  The factions are dull, too.

I hate topics like this because I wouldn't take anything away from FNV and what Obsidian did with it.  At the same time all the Bethesda hate is ridiculous.  Be glad there are any Fallout games at all.  Or just don't play them, who the hell cares.

I love Obsidian's games, which are among my all time favorites. However, the team is much smaller than BGS and they lack experience designing this sort of massive open world sandbox game from scratch. I'm not aware of any other developers beside Bethesda with this much experience designing AAA sandbox RPGs on that scale. This is why Fallout New Vegas was not called Fallout 4, as it was developed using the Fallout 3 engine and assets.

At any rate, BGS has likely already been working on Fallout 4 for some time. Perhaps following its release they might be inclined to hire a third party studio to utilize the engine and assets to develop another project along the lines of Fallout New Vegas. By that time, however, Obsidian may be tied up working on their own Project Eternity franchise, which looks very promising.

Yeah I'm with you Addai. I honestly don't get the Bethesda hate. Seriously. They are about the only studio producing anything worth my time now. Bioware was one of those up until, well...that's become a waste of good brain cells and breath to repeat.

Bethesda's one of the few hopeful large studios left that still values player freedom, packs their games full with a ton of content, embraces the modding community, and puts out games that we still talk about daily after a friggin year! I don't want them 'changing,' just improving. Give me what I expect, with more and more content, and I'll be standing in line to buy. Hell, maybe it's me, I don't really give a $#!+, FO3, Skyrim, and by extension NV, ate far too much of my time as it was...and I mean that in the best possible sense. If FO3 isn't "real" Fallout, OK, I'm more than good with the fraudulent one.
