My party was in Denerim with Lelianna - and I used her to pick a few pockets. As far as I can recall, all stealing attempts were successful except for one of the named NPCs in the market place - the Orlesian merchant - Habren?
Everytime after that, whenever I went in Denerim, I got these random encounters with guards calling me a thief.
Then I discovered this token in my inventory, an ill luck token which would tell the guards I was a thief.
The question I have is - is this randomly generated on pickpocketed items? Or does it appear in inventory if you fail picking pockets?
Anyone know?

If you are referring to the Bad Luck Charm, you find that by pickpocketing the barkeep at the Spoiled Princess tavern at Lake Calenhad. As far as I've seen it has no ill effects. I usually destroy it immediately after pickpocketing it to regain my inventory space.

Those guards start spawning after you fail a pickpocketing attempt.

Oh! I thought that the presence of the charm was the cause of the guards spawning -

so even one failed pickpocket attempt means that you have to keep fighting guards every time you travel in Denerim?

Or do the encounters end after a certain number of occurrences?

Unfortunately I do not know if they keep spawning forever or only after every failed attempt. Hopefully someone that's peeked in the toolset can explain how that works exactly. Still, if you only failed once or twice and are dealing with routine guard attacks, my guess is one failure marks you for life. :pinched:

If you fail a pickpocket check in Denerim the guards will come after you. I've only had 2 encounters with them in one playthrough but I suppose there could be more. Second one was pretty tough to beat, don't go anywhere without your trusty mages :)

Same here, only twice. After that I got a bit cocky and went around by myself - they didn't reapear.
