*JOIN THE GROUP*
This thread is getting crowded! Feel free to post here too.

EDIT: The new group can now be found here. Don't worry. We don't induct you with candlewax, and there's no obligation. This just seemed like the best way to get some of these games running and keep people linked in with each other, given Origin's ridiculous friend cap. (Note: feel free to skip the first two paragraphs of here. Just backstory. Also, to clarify, this is NOT Gold-elitism. In fact, I think that most Silver players are a whole lot better than they think, and I'd like to prove it.)

It's no secret that finding public Gold game on PC is becoming a little tougher. Last time Bioware published stats, only a very tiny proportion of players seemed to be running Gold with any frequency. Thread crop up all the time here about how so many PUG players in Gold just don't seem ready.

So, a few weeks back, this thread came up. I offered to play a few Gold games with eraser, because I knew I could handle myself and he just wanted to dip his toe in the water, see what it was like. It was great - he was more than ready for Gold, and between the two of us we ran through multiple PUGs, hitting the top two spots and working together smoothly each time. Our teammates, however, were not so... useful. It got me thinking.

In a four man team, a Gold match can be run pretty easily with just two competent players. I know I've managed extraction with a lot less than that, and anyone playing Gold with any regularity will have done the same. I also suspect that a great many players out there are hammering the hell out of Silver and are ready to move to Gold, but simply worry they'll bring down their team or that Gold is "too hard to be fun". So, this is my suggestion:

If we could organise matches, in which two regular Gold players paired with two regular Silver players to let them try Gold out for a couple of matches, perhaps we could increase the pool (and quality) of regular Gold players by quite a lot? We don't need people who can score 100,000+ points by wave 3. That won't show anyone anything. We just need two guys who can hold their own and, together, can keep a match together if things go to hell, pairing with those Silver players who are keen to move up and aren't sure they're ready? If no-one is interested, I'll let this die, but I feel like it'd be a great move for the community as a whole.

Thought? Volunteers, from all difficulties? I'm just interested in how this'd be received.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, this has been pretty impressive. A lot of responses from everyone, and everyone seems pretty keen. I'm editing the current list of names into this post now, players from both difficulties. I'll likely set up a group on here soon, so we can simply post times we'll be playing into the group forums:

You should expect a flood of players saying they wanna help cause they rule gold and platinum and not many players seeking guidance.

The only bad thing is that Origin friend list is still capped at 100.

Yeah, always an issue. If there aren't enough people interested in moving up, then there is no point to it. Never going to know if we don't ask, though.

EDIT: Edited topic title with that goal in mind. We'll see.

Count me in :) I play mostly silver, I was thinking about moving up but I have no friends and PUG gold is not very appealing. So yes. CET timezone but I play mostly late at night so closer to US peak than Europe.

My origin ID is the same.

I used to regularly run in Gold matches, and had just started to dip my toes into Platinum, when Retaliation was released. (And no, before we have "lol learn to play", while I occasionally dabbled in the WGG crowd when I just wanted a quick 15-20 minute game, I was typically doing just fine with UUGs.)

And then **** all went to hell. I still don't know what Bioware changed, but holy crap the AI got a boost. It's not just the anti-camping map changes, it's not just the addition of Dragoons and Bombers and the Collectors. Something else got tweaked in there and it made the enemies feel like they'd gone up a match level outside of Bronze. Silver felt like Gold, Gold felt like Platinum, etc.

My friends who used to do Golds with me pre-Retaliation have the same issue, so I'm pretty sure it's not just me - but I've never seen a single one of them playing a Gold match since the day after the DLC was released. Which is sad, because I liked the challenge of the things. :(

Also, mostly unrelated - for some reason, ME3 absolutely hates the mic on my headset and will not pick up audio from it even when all other apps will, which sure doesn't help me any when playing in PUGs. Friends and I use TS for private games, but it's a little hard to ask in a public game if people are using something if the game won't pick up your mic at all and there's no text chat in the lobby. :P

Lional? I think I just played a match with you. I was the suicidal vorcha sentinel, and you were the searing vanguard? You were pretty competient, I was a bit too rash in that match. Feel free to add me - kec4482.
I'll do serious gold runs with characters I know I can make it with, silver is my experimental training ground.

I used to regularily run Gold, but I dipped down to Silver for the simple reason of the Challenge system. It is just far more easier to get through waves on lower difficulties fast and easy in a PUG (never bothered finding groups since I want to solo-play casually) because you can basically single-handedly carry a group on Silver, while also giving yourself room to tinker with the Gun and Character Kit challenges (I admit, up before the challenge systems, I only regularily played about 30% of the Character Kits and 20% of the weapons, rest I had never tried..)

Once I am done grinding stuff that I deem Silver-necessary, I'll switch back to Gold and eventually Platinum, I would imagine once I finish Gold stuff. :/

I agree that Retaliation shifted the difficulty up a notch. People who'd like to get back into Gold after this should consider getting on board too :) What this is, essentially, is just people who want to play Gold pairing with a couple of people who do now, to get the Gold community bolstered! If you (and any of your friends) have played before and have been shafted by Retaliation would be more than welcome!

Morwen your not the only one. ME 3 audio is junk. 10% it works great the rest its bah. Sliver is getting too easy for me. Even thou I do not score high, but I normally support other team members and go after the objectives.

I have yet to try Gold yet and I guess I should start getting my feet in the water, have plenty of equipment I've been holding onto for when I started with Gold, though many of my weapons and weapon mods have tons of upgrades to go.

If you want to show me though Gold my Origin ID is VeZuvaSarlehn

Alright. I personally won't be back until about Monday (away from my PC right now), and will be more than happy to play with anyone keen to do so. Looks like there might be a few people interested in this, so keep posting here if you're keen.

Try it again. Since the recent balance changes (most notably: capped dragoon spawn count, reduced shield gate cooldown, reduced enemy spawning near objectives) it's a lot easier again, gold feels pretty much as it did before now (except against Collectors, as they're still bugged and annoying as hell).

Well, isn't this an interesting topic. 72 hours in (deduct 12 for my multiplayer time) and think I am competent enough for gold. Just switched to it around 5 game-hours ago actually. Still, help is welcome! I wipe around 7/16 of the time and usually only end up 2nd or 3rd in the running (4th if I'm playing something I'm very new to).

I think it is a great initiative, a lot of people complain about PUGs, but I wonder how many take the time to give those same players advice. Unfortunately, I do not have a microphone, though it always displays that I do, so I am not sure how much help I could be. Like many others have said, the important aspect of this would be teach them strategy and tactics, not just kill everything in sight. But I regularly run UUG successfully with PUGs and am a good team player so if you need someone to fill a slot and don't mind the lack of verbal communication, let me know.

Origin ID is jorofin1, just in case.

I'll put my name down (PC/Jamesui), but I fear this will end up the same way as the other thread. Is our protocol going to be gold-ites contact interested silver-ites or vice versa?

Hi, I am interested but may not play often enough to benifit. I've been playing Silver for a while now and depending on the right enemy and a familiar character, I can finish top two with no consumables.

Still not sure that I have a powerful enough weapon loadout - as most uncomman weapons in the level 3-7 range.

Hoping with Gold I increase the credits and hence level weapons up quicker and play with new characters. Origin ID same as my Bioware user

Color me interested, I only even get the rare gold game in and it usually ends poorly. Probably due in some part to myself, but I'm not really sure what I'm doing right/wrong or if it's just others hampering/carrying my Gold Games.
Origin ID: xCosmicKirbyx

I think the only real drawback to PC Gold games is that so many players, including myself, don't have or want a mic. It seems that Gold and Platinum games would require some coordination between squad mates to be successful, as well as enjoyable.

I should add that the above is just my humble opinion, no more than that.

Nope. They just require at least one entity with brain and some skill.

Jokes aside, i never communicate in Gold, and still 95% of games are success.
