So, how many old characters will be returning in this game?

Honestly, this was one thing I did not like about DA2. Far too many recycled characters. Seriously, the number of familiar faces popping up in one small area across the sea from Scotland seemed pretty implausible and uncanny.

Or is the sea more of a salty lake? I'm not sure. Maybe it is. Most video game worlds are so small that I could toss a pebble and it would bounce right off the invisible wall on the opposite side.

Regardless, drop the crap characters that we don't like, and possibly bring back the few exceptionally good ones, but instead why not try to come up with some new ones? IMO, the old ones are getting boring. We need some fresh personalities. Like... Orsino.

And no, turning formerly cool and charming and optimistic people into manic depressive suicidal/homicidal freaks doesn't count. NEW people are what we need.

Moar elves, perhaps? Oh, and bring dwarven women. Because they're awesome and I'm not the only one who sorely misses em. :wizard:

He was so alluring. And his voice actor was very well chosen.

And then he turned into a giant flesh creature and died. xp

I'd really like to see new Alistair like he is in the comics. Too bad that's Bioware's canon. Unless he becomes bitter and disillusioned in all the outcomes...

Doesn't he essentially become the Harvester?

Alluring to some when changing his diaper perhaps. He was a cry baby in mage robes, resorted to blood magic when cornered. If such a character exist in DA3, then I can only hope he's kill-able.

No Alistair just becomes bitter. :P

And yes I suppose Harvester is the technical term I just thought "giant flesh creature" also got the point across. ^_^

ADAL HELMI!!! She was one cool warrior chick... didn't waver a bit when faced with rampant misogyny.

And no Alitar.

I think too many people on the DA boards are infamous.

Prediction Time.

6-10 party members. 2 to 3 of those will be previously established characters that have never been party members before.  The remainder will be new characters.

Returning characters (depending on import/settings) that won't be party members: Alistair, Anora, Loghain, Leliana, Morrigan, Flemeth, Aveline.  Reasoning?  Alistair and Anora get mentioned due to political status, potentially.  It makes sense for Leliana and Cassandra and Justinia will likely have some role to play in whatever goes down regarding Chantry, Templars, Seekers, Inquisition.  Flemeth seems to always be involved, and Morrigan probably will be due to having more to contribute and being frequently requested.  Mark of the Assassin gave Aveline a reason to be in Orlais.  I think with those characters it wouldn't be strained to see them return given that they all have reason to be involved in whatever might be happening in Orlais come DA3.

I miss Ohgren, Zevran, Morrigan, and Wynne... although Wynne is probably dead...
They need to incorporate Zevran in a mission or something because he always made me laugh, same with Ohgren.

I think what DA3 needs most of all is Jethann.

This.

Perhaps if it had been set in Amaranthine or Highever or some other Fereldan city, or if it had been established that the commercial relations between Kirkwall and Ferelden were very substantial, it could be accepted that a lot of Fereldans just happened to stop by there.

But Zevran, Alistair (in particular as a drunk or Warden), Nathaniel, Demon Sophia, the ex-werewolves and the Dalish hunting them, Cullen, Anders, Isabella (somewhat understandable), Leliana (somewhat understandable), Marethari's Dalish clan, Harrowmont's heir, Bodahn and Sandal, and I've probably forgotten a bunch more, all showing up in Kirkwall was really quite unbelievable, and felt very gratuitous.

The only returning characters I want to see is Sandal and maybe Shale after she has been changed back into a dwarf...or perhaps turned into a human by mistake.

I like the recurring characters. It don't see it as the world being small, I see it as my travelling companions having travelling fever! And it can only be cured, by more appearances!

I liked that noblewoman-in-market's maid from Origins; nothing would better enhance the plot of DA: 3 than the crucial inclusion of the maid. Please contract the greatest actress of her generation, Jennifer 'Ladyfinger' Lopez, to voice act this venerable role.
