Ok, so I just beat the 4 test to get to the urn. And a got there and pitch some of the ashes.

But I read that you need to defiling the urn if you did not beat Koligrim.
I haven't defeated the dragon nor did I get the option to defiling the urn.

I would rather not fight against the dragon since he is very hard.

My question is.
What happens if I take the pitch of the ashes, and haven't killed the dragon? Is it bad not to do it?

Do my party members get angry? Do Koligrim himself start the fight? or what happens?

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. You don't have to kill the dragon--all that comes with it is a difficult fight and some decent loot. It's a matter of choice. The ashes are not affected.

Have you killed Kolgrim or not? If you want to complete the quest for him, you obviously need to defile the urn. But I'm guessing if you don't have the option, you have probably not sided with Kolgrim.

Just take a pinch of ashes and carry on. There's no rush to kill the dragon, nothing bad will happen, and if you want you can come back later and kill it.

It drops some good loot though, most importantly it drops dragon scales for some of the best armor in the game.

You only have to defile the ashes if you want to unlock the Reaver speciality.

No I have not. And what quest are you talking about?

I am on the quest called Urn of sacred ashes, the one where I need the ashes to cure Arl Eamon.

What I want to know is that if I just pitch the ashes without fighting the dragon, if the quest will be affected or not?

As I said, the quest itself is unaffected by killing the dragon. At least, it has been this way in my experience.

So, by NOT killing the dragon and NOT defiling the urn. The quest will remain unaffected? Nothing 'bad' will happen, such as the ashes not working on Arl Eamon, or a party memeber leaving?

I am talking about the same quest. Before you reach the mountain top area, you meet Kolgrim. You can kill him or agree to help him. If you say you will help him, you will get an option to defile the urn after you take the ashes.

In any case, taking a pinch of ashes doesn't have anything to do with what happens with the dragon.

So to your question above: yes, nothing bad will happen.

Ah, so if you accept the dragon's quest/help, you will have to defile the urn. (doing so will make some the party members mad and possible leave - so I've heard)

If you do not accept, you have to kill the dragon.

BUT whenever you want to make contact with the dragon is up you and it has nothing to do with the curing Arl Eamon (aka the Urn of scared ashes quest)

Correct?

First of all, no matter what you do, you always take a pinch of the ashes and cure Arl Eamon. This has nothing to do with everything else that's going on there.

Regarding Kolgrim, you have two options. You can choose to side with him and defile the ashes. He will then reward you by teaching you the Reaver specialization. However, if you have Leliana or Wynne in your party when you defile the urn, they will leave the party for good and fight you.

You can also kill him. When he dies, you get an item that can be used to summon the dragon. Whether you choose to use the item or not is up to you, and you can even come back later if you want.

termokanden: Thank you, all I wanted to know was if it was required to either defiling the urn or kill the dragon in order to complete the Urn of scared Ashes quest.

Seems like it is not, anyways I have a save from before entering. So I can undo it if something happens.

It definitely isn't. Or I will eat my hat, and I'd even have to buy one first :)

By the way, Kolgrim is not the Name of the Dragon. It Is the name of Leader of the Cult in Haven. Fighting the Dragon is optional.

You dont have to fight the dragon to complete the quest and defiling the urn is completely optional unless u want to unlock Reaver speciliazation. If u didnt agree to defile the ashes i dont think the option will even be there. Ive always killed Kolgrim anyways because i think defiling the ashes is a bad thing

Wynne and Leliana will try to kill you from what I've read if they are with you in the temple or they leave your party once you return to camp if you defile the ashes. Tough choice there, since Wynne is your healer. You can level Morrigan up with a heal spell or two if you go this route; but, she won't have the spirtual healer specialization from my understanding.

I don't think you can kill the dragon unless you kill Kolgrim, he has a horn on his person you have to blow to summon the dragon to kill it on the bridge, you can take a short cut out one of the side doors once you reach the urn room. It's worth the kill for the dragon horde, alot of loot in it.

You can give Morrigan the Spirit Healer specialty at level 14, if you have had it unlocked.  I had fun in one game with Morrigan as a split personality -  dealing damage, and healing.  Servers her right for being so cranky all the time (at least on that playthrough.)

You can call the dragon if you kill Kolgrim and loot his corpse for the horn.  If you want to unlock the reaver specialty, you need to not kill him... so I guess that dragon fight would be off the table, so to speak.  Unless there is a way to ****** him off (which seems easy enough to do) after you unlock reaver.

As far as I can tell the only difference is that defiling the ashes gets you a lot more XP

I wonder what happens if you defile the ashes before acquiring Wynne.

Thanks for the tip.  I didn't think to give Morrigan the Spirit Healer at lvl 14.

Having done it, you can defile the ashes, unlock Reaver, and then kill Kolgrim. You can even leave and come back and kill Kolgrim and the dragon later.

Nothing, she doesn't find out what you did and doesn't leave your party

A quick question I killed Kolgrim but the game won't let me loot his bones (TAB button just indicates were his bones are...) do I have to reach the Urn first or did my game glitch it up somehow?

You just have to activate each element twice it is fairly simple actually... the key are the triggers that activate 2 elements of the bridge at once.

Well if you don't want to think it out yourself... google is your friend :P
