Please. PLEASE stop paraphrasing dialogue, or give us another option.

Look. I don't mind if DA3 has a voiced protagonist. I don't mind if we have to use the dialogue wheel again. I don't mind if we are gimped in terms of dialogue options(Well I do sort of mind this, but I'm used to it at this point.).

But PLEASE stop paraphrasing dialogue. I am so sick of clicking an option yet it sounding nothing like was originally hinted at. I want to disagree with someone; not scream at the top of my lungs, and cannibalize them in front of their children.

Better yet, just give us the option to read what our character is about to say fully. Like if we hold the mouse over a option long enough just let the dialogue appear on screen or something.

This is something that has been driving me bat**** up the belfry since ME1, ME2,  ME3, DA2, and SWTOR.

Please Bioware.. Stop the madness.

They have said they are going to try much better paraphrasing

I prefer NOT knowing exactly what my character is about to say. Having the line I JUST READ said back to me is incredibly annoying. Paraphrasing could be clearer, which is something they said they'd be working on.

Noooooo! Thats almost the exact opposite of what I want.

Honestly is it so hard  to give us a little preview of what we're saying? To just let  some words pop up on the screen so we can know exactly what we're about to say? Can't you just copy/paste the script?

NPC dialogue appears on the screen after they stop talking for a while.

I said "option". Whats wrong with having a toggle? Or like I said; hovering the mouse over the dialogue choice for a bit to see what you're saying.

And I'd argue that its more annoying to want to simply say "no" to something, but to have your character go crazy on you.

Its a unnecessary inconvenience.

Lulzies. But yeah apparently the devs really do not like the idea of hovering over the parahrase and getting the line. I can't remember the exact reason. It might have something to do with the UI or maybe they just don't like it. Dunno. As for the saying "no" and the character going batguano on yah, that should be fixed/helped with clearer paraphrases, no?

I was unaware there was a drinking game associated with the word "toggle".

But seriously. Its a reasonable solution to this. The people who like to be "surprised" are happy. The people who actually want to know what they're about to bloody say are happy.

"Toggle" is kind of a catch-all solution that fans consistently propose that to them seems simple but when it comes to implimenting it, it's time consuming and multiplies the opportunity for things to bug out (and other less technical reasons), as Bioware reiterates at least once every few weeks.

Hence the drinking game.

Ahaha that toggle. XD

Nah, they've already said they're gonna make is clearer, so hopefully it'll be more obvious on what the delivered line is gonna be like.

Well it doesn't even have to be a toggle. Whats wrong with hovering over a choice for a set ammount of time, and having the dialogue appear on screen? Thats almost exactly what happens with NPC dialogue.

How much you wanna bet that its gonna end up being worse somehow?

And in the end I'll be on the forums; a single manley tear flowing my eye, while I whisper these words ..

"You could have just added a toggle.. "

There may not be enough room to show the full text. They're already limited word-count wise when writing paraphrases. There'd have to be some serious UI gymnastics to make enough room for who knows how much text, or else they'd have to limit the wordcount even in the full responses.

Plus they just don't like it, I guess.

Yeah.. No. Dialogue Wheel Protagonists(or DWP's) don't say all that much. NPC's say far more, yet their dialogue manages to fit on the screen.

Shepard speech doesn't count.

What, you mean like ME3's awesome 'Action' or 'RP' modes? Yeah that worked out  awesomely.

Thats a horrible reason.

NPC dialogue is displayed at the top of the screen which has much more room.

Sensible UI design would dictate that the full PC line be displayed somewhere near where the paraphrases are located, which is bottom center. There needs to be visual correlation between a paraphrase and the ensuing full text pop-up. I know you won't, but trust me, it'd be a messy clusterf*** to somehow squash a sentence down there without it splaying across the width of the screen and being a typographical mess.

Thats a horrible reason.

Then make your own game.

But they do almost exactly what I'm proposing with NPC dialogue. All you'd have to do is hold it over the option then the words would display itself where the NPC dialogue would normally be. And you would obviously know what dialogue was asossiated with which paraphrase based on on options you're hovering over.

A person would have to be so utterly clueless not to figure that out.

I think if Gaider had a nickel for every time he's explained why they won't be showing full text, he could retire to his own private island by now.

I would explain the reasons to you, but seeing as you lack the mental faculty's needed to even perform a simple search to see if you're topic had been posted before, I doubt I could manage to explain it to you in simple enough terms for you to grasp.

Damn.

Such hostility over nothing. And I'm sure this topic has been mentioned atleast once. I think I remember it during DA2's pre-release. But since DA3 is a long time coming I thought this would be a fair suggestion to bring up.

Would you rather I be making the 50,000th Mage vs Templars thread? Cus I will if you want.

"Mages rule, and Templars drool" I'll call it. It should reach 50 pages by the afternoon.
