What's even more funny is in ME3 not only is the wreckage of Soverign mentioned many times like in ME2, we also see one of his legs that where blown off in Leviathan dlc. Now this crap comes along and contradicts all three games+ a dlc. Does Bioware even care anymore?
I can't wait to see how certain people are going to defend this.
The question to ask is how much input did BW have into this thing? If this movie is like the comics, then the answer is probably not much. The comics may read Mac Walters on the front cover, but what goes into the panel is dependent on Dark Horse and the artists. It’s the same w/ the movie. Imagine you’re completely new to the ME universe and Liara starts talking about Sovereign. If you see a bunch of Reaper parts, you may not know what it is. But if you see an intact Reaper, an iconic silhouette of one, then you get a clearer picture of what it is while still leaving a bit of mystery to the whole thing. Why is the Citadel near a planet? To give it scale. Did the animators know it wasn’t near a planet? I don’t know. Odds are they didn’t, but if you want to show the scale of something in a spacescape, what do you do? Stick it in front of a planet. It gives the thing scale and you’re guaranteed good composition to boot. Why is Liara in this? To connect property A: Paragon Lost to property B: Mass Effect 3. It’s a fanservice cameo that gives a bit of background info on the Reaper story. In hindsight they probably should have used a totally new character for that scene, but gimmicks typically take precedent over logic.
Again, the question to ask is how much input did BW have into this thing? Probably not much and w/ that in mind I wouldn’t take anything in this movie as canon except for what we already know in the game.
