Steam Rulez. You must have a POS comp if you have problems with Steam
I DO have a POS laptop and I still say Steam rules so there. No problems ever with steam though<3

Funny for a company that hasn't released a good game since HL1 and has buisness practices as bad, if not worse than EA.Seifer006 wrote...

I take it you weren't around when HL2 was released and required Steam for retail versions? reactions were pretty much the same, so were the reasons. And they were just as valid. Steam is just loved now because of the sales and being first to market. And no, I don't have any problems with Steam either.

That's only partially true.
Steam doesn't have a problem with a developer selling DLC exclusively, Bioware did it for Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2. The problem is Origin is a direct competitor to Steam (and is not a developer) and if Steam could sell the game but not the DLC then you'd effectively have two different classes of the game which creates the illusion that the Steam version was inferior which would reflect poorly on Steam and Valve.

Yeah, their business practices are so bad and numerous that you don't even know where to begin listing them which is why you didn't list any, right? Right?

That isn't true at all. Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 both pre-date the Steam DLC policy change. Those two games, along with Fallout 3 and some others contributed to Valve instituting the policy because of the simply terrible support for DLC with those games. Back when Mass Effect 2 was released, purchasing DLC for it and installing it was a massive pain in the ass. Fallout 3 was even worse, frankly. Thus, around the Crysis 2 release, Valve decided that any game that has DLC needs to sell the DLC through Steam so that their customers don't have to deal with a ****ty process to buy and install the DLC. EA doesn't want to give Valve their 30% cut of the DLC sales, and decided to pull their games from Steam. Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 are grandfathered in because they were around long before the change. Crysis 2 is back for sale on Steam as a version that includes all the DLC, so there's no additional stuff to buy. It's possible that Mass Effect 3 might end up on Steam in a similar all-inclusive package at some point.

I've never seen Steam get slaughtered for having it stated in their EULA that they can search your computer and sell the info to third parties. So worse business practices than EA? Not likely. As for games, have you ever heard of Portal? It actually won Game of the Year over Skyrim from some places. Not to mention the Left 4 Dead series which has seemed immensely popular and other games which were made by Valve. Add that to the fact that Steam is doing pretty well (look at how many people use it) and I'd say Valve is doing just fine.
