I support this idea but I'd like to be classy evil and not just straight up jerk evil. I mean you can be a bad guy and not be a BAD guy right. I feel to be evil I don't have to continuosly resort to barbarous comments about other peoples mothers. That was my problem with Assertive/angry Hawke you can still be evil without being a total jerk. You can still be an agry or assertive individual without being a jerk. Basically I don't want to always be the jerk even if I'm leaning towards the evil persuasion.

Evil doesn`t = jerk. You can be evil and intellectual or even honorable....

I would absolutely love this idea. Maybe not take over the world with ancient evil but the ability to be out for yourself.

I just don't understand why evil or selfishness is just punished with missed quests and lower xp.

If a quest comes up to find grandma's silver chalice (normal goody two shoe quest) i should be able to take the quest, sell the chalice to someone else for more money, and some how fool the person in such a way that i get credit for the quest.

Or for example the DLCs Soldier's Peak and The Stone Prisoner. There should have been more benefit from what is considered the "very evil" options so that more people chose them.

I agree with the OP without reservation. Let us be not jerks, but be truly evil.

IKR? I wish that you could be as evil in every RPG as you can in Fallout 3. It's just so much more fun when you can murder, pillage, take slaves, and eat people.

Well, you could take a slave in DA2.

No eating people though, which was a shame.

Unfortunately slave in DA2 wasn't usable. And too bad you couldn't take her as slave-companion.:(

I think I prefer a grayer morality.
Besides, there's already plenty of murderous and manipulative outcomes made for your own benefit. Just because the end result isn't the destruction of the world doesn't make the bargaining with demons amiable.

Evil for Evil's sake just makes you a terrible role-player.

Depends on the type of evil. Being a big ol' meanie just for the heck of it doesn't make any sense. But if evil is letting Avernus continue with his research, letting Branka have the Anvil and siding with the Architect then sure, I'd like more of those.

Though really, those are more morally gray decisions than outright evil ones.

I'm tired by constant railroaded by the narrative. Can I be at least free to be"evil" by slaying every darkspawns who will respawn every 5 minutes at Deep Road, picking up fight and smashing drunken thugs in a tavern or brothel for every hours, flirting and bedding fine wenches, enjoying fine ale and arguing with characters like Oghren or Morrigan all day long throughout the narrative?

Yes, it's called PnP, limitless for your unquenchable thirst for roleplaying.

Everything has a motive, even if it's just "he looked at me funny." You can be evil for the sake of it and create quite the disturbing personality for it.

Yeah and I don't disagree with that, but in a game where the protag is supposed to help save the world or w/e it doesn't make sense for someone who murders people for insulting their taste in shoes to be in charge of... anything really. xp

Actions like Loghain's would make far more sense. Like his reasoning for selling the elves "we wouldn't have been able to save them anyway" makes sense, on some convoluted level you can even reason he was trying to save as many as possible. But the moment when you can rationalize an action like that is it really evil? What is evil anyway?

YES

Or at least give me more Murder Knife opportunities. They were sorely lacking in DA2

I wish we could play from the point of villain against some 'dogooeders', but more serious, unlike Overlord.

If I was to play an evil character, I would want to be like this guy:

I would just want to see the world burn!Image IPB

If you're going to go bad, why not go all the way! It's just a video game.

Meh. Who cares about ruling the world with dark Magic.

My first playthrough of DA3 would be to kill as many people (Mages, Templars, especially returning characters) as possible.

Thedas is a sick place and (S)Laughter is the best medicine.

Avernus wasnt really the most evil option in that situation, it was siding with the demon. Which barely got you anything at all.

I dont want moral greyness and  your examples were the most grey of them in the DA series and they werent evil at all.

Evil is having the option of sacrificing a permanent companion in a ritual to improve your own gear.

Evil is imprisoning the innocent or non combants for either no valid reason or for monetary reasons.

There was no really true evil things in the DA series that greatly benefits you over the goody two shoe route.

I'm fine with evil protagonists as long as they're treated accordingly.

I know people may end up complaining when you're constantly being pursued by the authorities or all your party members turn on you because you're a bastard, but it'd be amusing.

Why would you be pursued by authorities? That's a mistake right there. You don't have to be criminal to be evil. Almost all of the politicans are evil, mass murderers, and corrupt - and they aren't pursued by authorities.

I view "evil" characters as just selfish, only caring about themselves first. Evil isn't just trying to kill ever living thing they come across. Thats just psychopathic.

Honestly, you could play a pretty non-heroic "evil" character in DA:O, not so much in DA2.

Please, refrain from confusing evil with insanity.
