All too often the responses off the dialogue wheel are Good, Sarcastic and Jerkwad. It would be quite lovely if the PC could offer a polite reply as evil or narcissistic.

An example might be:

Victim: Gee, PC could you save our village from the horde o' evil?

Good: Why certainly, I shall rush to your aid!
Sarcastic: What and miss the Naked Qunari Jello Wresting Tournament?
Evil: Who do you think hired them to burn your homes?
Polite: I'm sorry, I can't. I have a prior commitment. But tell you what, I'm always hiring minions. Anyone who survives can look me up after.

I support this. Sometimes I just wanna say "no", and not be an ass about it.

This is why I always love reading your post. You always make me laugh.

But yes, it's a good idea. I support any recommendations for more options.

Most of the 'Yes'/'No' options in Dragon Age weren't tied to a particular tone anyway, rather depending on your dominant tone instead. If you played a polite character, then your rejections were probably polite.

In any case, more options for tone would always be nice.

BSN Rule # 16: If a thread pops up, someone must make a thread that's the exact opposite.

OT: Yes, that would be pretty cool. Though diplomatic Hawke is pretty close to this already.

Yes, it would be nice to have the option to refuse a quest that didn't require rapid mood swings.

Polite isn't the opposite of evil.

Polite isn't the opposite of evil.

In Bioware games it is.

It is usually mousestalker and only if the original thread is silly.

Polite evil: this is something the Bioware writers would excel at.

THIS! So much this! A relatively neutral way of declining would be just dandy.

No. Because it will only leave two other types of dialogues. A polite option would be nice, but it's not worth it.

I'd also like:

Pensive: I can't help you. I know what my refusal means; just as I know how it will be received, but delaying here will only endanger the greater picture.

Stoic: I won't. If I stop to defend every simpering peasant too fearful to pick up a blade - I'll be mired in the dozens of farms, hamlets and villages between here and Denerim. You want someone to save you - save yourself.

Churlish: I don't have time for this. You people really are pathetic. There's a war going on, and losing doesn't mean a hundred years of Orleasian occupation. It means your spouses, and children, and friends gutted where they stand.

Compassionate (even as a refusal): Maker, I'm so sorry. If there were ANYTHING I could do - please believe me that I would. I'll stay a day - maybe two at most - supply you with what I can (10 Sovereigns) - but then I have to go.

Reticent: I can't.
