Please God, no.

Merrill was an awful character and looked like a 12 year to boot.

She looked at least 19 (I'm 17).  And was a great person.

I think Merrils personality will be changed radically for the second time if she returns.

I mean honestly. How does Merrils personality go from confident, slighty bossy, straight edge by the books girl.
To becoming a nervous, quiet, radical, spaz between the events of DA:O to DA2?

How? I ask.

I miss DA:O Merril..

Same way Anders went from comical laid back minding my own business dude who just wanted to find a nice girl and the ability to shoot lightning at fools, to whiny depressing and almost insufferable anti templar activist who stops at nothing trying to free mages everywhere in thedas...

Maker I miss Awakening Anders :?

On topic: No matter what, she loses her clan. Either they will all be dead, or Merill will be exiled... sort of. I can see this event and the fact she's been in Kirkwall for 6 years having a drastic effect on her personality. I could totally see her return in DA3 and be quite different from her early DA2 self. A lot less socially awkward and no longer using blood magic at least.

Me too.  And have you seen the behind the scenes to the Dawn of the Seeker movie? They say they wanted a mage who was this and that and they described Anders! Then they said they never really had a mage like that...
You did:crying:

Hey, if you asked Anders he told you his ultimate dream was to fireball every Templar. Did you think he was kidding? I was, but being serious about it si fine.

And Merrill had better keep using blood magic. I didn't prop up her confidence for the better part of a decade only to have her fall to peer pressure.

I vote no to more out-of-place cameos.

There weren't any in Dragon Age 2.

Merrill wasn't that popular. I'd guess we're more likely to see Isabella or Morrigan again.

Really? Morrigan sure didn't turn up in DA2
If people like Sofia Dryden and Sketch can have cameos surely Merrill could as well.

It's certainly possible, but Bioware knows where their bread is buttered.  Isabella and Morrigan are the money-makers.

I don't particularly see a reason for her to return, other than a Zevran-like fan-service cameo. The Eluvian was her big thing, and I could be wrong, but she seemed to be done with it, being that she broke it and all.

Merrill comes back in a halfway possession by a Mirror spirit? That would explain another personality change. ~_^

Only if they change the VA. It's impossible for Eve Myles to not sound apocalyptically adorable.

Merrill is the least plot-relevant companion in DA2 (apart from perhaps Fenris) though. That plus her killability means the chances or her returning is less than that of, say, Sebastian or Aveline. Unfortunately.

By being in a new environment.

Sometimes a person's confidence comes from having a place.  Merrill left her clan and was suddenly surrounded by humans rather than other Dalish that saw her and expected her to be the next Keeper.  She no longer had her feeling of authority.  And so she has to get her confidence from a new place since she could no longer get it from social standing.  So, placed into a new environment, she withdraws into eccentricity, which allows her to be both a spaz and a know-it-all.

Who knows what the writers had in my mind.  But that's my guess.

I agree, that the change of environment, being pulled out of the place you grew up and thrust into a circle of strangers with high expectations of your abilities can put the pressure on to "produce".  I felt like Merrill was completely out of her element when compared with DAO.  It would make me feel warm and fuzzy to see her return, but back as part of her original clan, and with exciting tidbits to show off, and her old confidence back.

I hope for her return, yes. Doing so would be on the difficult side, maybe, but it'd be quite worthwhile.

I agree.

I have nothing against Merril, but supposedly these games are only related in that they are in the same world/continent. Why would an awkward elf chick be part of this next story, and if she was, why would she coincidentally be part of this new characters party.

I think the one shot cameos are just silly appearances to give the not very good illusion that save carryover  choices are being paid attention to by Bioware. Most of them feel forced or unmemorable. Either way, a waste of resources. Just tell me a brand new story, and tell me a damn good story.

Hey, I'm a hypocrit, at the same time I said this, i could see Varric the story teller fitting in the new game:)

It's been stated more than a few times that rumor point towards a gathering of the clans. If our MC happen to go to that why wouldn't Merrill be there?

'cause she was booted out of her clan?  Well, if they were alive to do the booting anyway.

Booted and made a pariah, yes. But as the Keeper's (former) First, and someone who traveled with the Champion of Kirkwall (and thus first-hand witness to the domino cascade of events), she might have something to contribute. Perhaps she would attend, despite the jeers, despite the scorn, because at the heart of it all, her primary concern is the preservation and longevity of the Dalish.

Well, if the clan is dead it is not like they can tell other clans about her being a pariah:unsure:

I supposse it comes down to if she still cares. In my playthrough the last thing she said about the subject was that she was done living for her clan, so...

I find Merrill pretty dull, but I'm not opposed to her appearing briefly. If we must have a 'kooky' elf chick, I'd rather have Merrill back than Tallis or someone new.

Nonsense, the VA should stay the same.  "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Flemeth Arlathan wgah'nagl fhtagn; whoops, messed up the pronunciation again, silly me :wizard:".

Merril is a VERY terrible character, and i REALLY hope no to see her again EVER.

THere are only 1 character from DA2 i want to see again, and thats varic. isabella is nice too but Varic is the best.

All others could jump into a blackhole never to be seen again.
