I played DA2 and I know about the whole mage/templar war but I never got any of the dlc's so I was wondering could anyone please fill me in stroy-wise on what happened.

I assume they didn't just drop the entire Hawke is missing plot ,did they?

The DLC takes place before the end game in DA2 (even if you play them afterwards), so Hawke isn't missing yet. For plot summary, you can check Legacy here and MotA here. Basically they are extended side quests, that offer background information for Hawke's family, Orlesians and your party members.

The book "Asunder" is the only thing that really continues the mage/templar stuff so far.
