Say what you will. Fereldan is not a minor either. and Kirkwall has No Political relevance, AT ALL. 0 Backwater CITY. It's not even a country.
The Mage Vs Templar war doesnt mean The Viscount has a say in the Politic's of Thedas.

Alistair is also a Templar, even he is not a full Templar but he is a Templar, he have influence on the Templars in Circle Tower
If Alistair is the King and the Warden is a Mage, what do you guys think it don't give major impact on the world? A Grey Warden Templar King and grey Warden Mage as Hero of Ferelden, imagine that...and that Grey warden MAGE is the King advisor/counsellor...or even ex lover or concubine
Similar with if Alistair is the King and the Warden is paragon of Orzamar. What about City Elf/Dalish Elf? the King is the Warden friend or "friend", it have political influence. Even if Anora as a Queen, the world change because now every races unite under one banner
What other places have? Kirkwal have nothing, a city full of crazy people.
If Qunari ever attack Ferelden, they playing with bee hive. Alistair the King and the Warden Queen have every race on their side, even Sten the Qunari...they also have Grey Warden, Templar and Mages on their side too.
Kirkwal is the backwater city, so it is impossible the event happen in Kirkwal change the world. Okay, someone blow up the Chantry in Kirkwal, well, everybody know Kirkwall have many crazy people, i don't think people in other places would even care.

Two: Sten is ultimately loyal to the Qunari. And, in fact, he is the new Arishok.

The Dalish under Lanaya who was human friendly, took a part in the last battle, the Warden who settle the Dalish curse problem, no matter if the Warden is human, dwarf or Elf, the relationship is going better than before. They also given land by the King boon. They have helped Ferelden against the darkspawn and Archdemon, why not they help again against Qunari and all other enemies of Ferelden?
Sten is honorable man, his loyalty to the Qun, he himself say he will not face the Warden in the battlefield. Meaning as long as the Warden is there he will not doing something stupid. And he also respect Grey Warden. Just send him cookies and cakes, everything will be fine

Spoilers for Those Who Speak follow. You have been warned!
It kind of won't work out
Mr. Gaider has stated numerous times that events in the printed media (comics, books, etc) are based off one possible scenario at the end of DA:O and are not canon.
Also, Alistair and the Arishok (The Qunari Formerly Known as Sten) allied against ONE mage. Singular. Alistair has not declared war on the magisters of Tevinter. He's going after a SPECIFIC magister, because the man either killed Maric, or is holding him captive. We don't know which yet. Or, if either is actually true, just to cover my bases.

If you killed off Alistair, you could just imagine that Fiona's kid took over his role in the comics to continue the bloodline, in general, not just trade spots in the plot of the comics...
Because I support the theory that Maric had three kids and Alistair was not Fiona's.

You dont just roll up into Tevinter and attack a Magister with "a reputation for power and knowing things no-one elses does", slaughter all of his men, without there being consequences & repurcussions. I assume Titus has allies, which is why Alistair enlisted (or begged for) the Arishok's help.

ITT: People assign arbitrary levels of political relevance to Kirkwall because an Orlesian cracked a joke, and/or city states aren't "real countries," then pretend their arbitrary assumptions are something other posters should take seriously.

I agree. And?
You said "the mages of Tevinter." That's not correct. He (and the Arishock) are going after ONE mage, and his allies, servants, etc. Some of which may indeed by subservient mages to Titus. But not all, or even the majority of them. A man with that kind of reputation has enemies, afterall, who will probably be more than happy to sit back and watch the oxmen and the amusing little backwater king (spoken from a Tevinter POV) duke it out.
Hell during the initial scene of the comic one of the magisters was defending Alistair. Well, okay technically she was defending Varric, but it amounted to the same thing. What limited information we have on Tevinter suggests this kind of power play (that is to say, open violence) isn't unheard of in Tevinter. Chiefly I'm thinkling of Fenreyiel's (sp?) letter to Hawke.
Oh...and...he beat the Arishock in a personal duel, declined to kill him, and pointed out tthey COULD be killing a Tevinter magister together, instead of each other. I say this because ol' "Alibear" deserves his props.

Ummm. The events of the comic's happen no matter what, there are just different variation's of the events based upon choices in your playthrough. So, It's tecnically true, The comics are not cannon to your personal universe, however, it's important to remember some form of these events occur.
I'd be happy to agree with you on most things. But in this case the driving force behind the entire adventue (Alistair) could be
a) Fereldan's king
c) stone-cold dead.
It's option c) that really makes the idea that SOME version of these events always happen a little sticky.

Yeah, I went and checked the wiki, and the talk pages are full of debate so clearly the theory is anything but dead.

Alright...i can see now...when we talk about "changes in the world", they say "it is non-canon". But they say "this game is about the world".

I also think I remember Gaider stating that what is canon in the books is not canon for the games since you make your own choices and there are many people out there who have not read the books. I am just now starting to read the books and I am currently reading The Calling. And I enjoy them for the backstory to the game.

My goodness man! your really good at taking statements out of context, you should be a reporter.
but really, are you arbitrarily assuming that your statments and assumptions are any more or less arbitrary than mine, thefore objecting that someone might take them seriously?
Oh, my aching heart!

AH. but Gaider said "they could have happend very differently"
If option C is true in your version of the game, It might be Lohgain doing the searching for Maric, they were (are) best friends. Or maybe the Warden had a reason to find Maric, thus hired Varric or Isabela...My Warden DID know Isabela...after all.

Possible, but the Warden I'm talking about is a mage. Are non-qunari mages welcome on Par Vollen?

The blog post confirmed it as a center of templar power as previously mentioned, and it is a . It's a city-state so technically speaking it is a nation. As for the Viscount, I never claimed he had power over the rest of Thedas, he doesn't even have total control over his own city. What I'm saying is that, as a prominent city in the region, momentous events occuring there have weight in Thedas.
