Well first I would argue they were not themes. Just something relevant to the universe at hand. I would also argue that going from the first Dark Forces game where Kyle has nothing to do with being a force sensitve and is just a merc doing a job/ To in thye sewuel finding out his force ancestory and becoming a jedi/sith is a major change in themes.
I would argue they are seperate stories told in the universe the Star Wars movies established. DA:O did a good job at establishing that universe and made it very clear that Blights are a rare thing in that world and that the Grey Wardens involvment extend to the Darkspawn for the most part and they are not the only focus/theme in the game. Politics play a large role.
It also goes far outside the blight and Grew Wardens to establish the Chantry and the dangers of mages. Not to mention the templars and other things.
All I guess I am trying to say is that the darkspawn have their role in the universe (just like the force jedi or sith) but not everything has to revolve around just those aspects.
When Kyle Katarn started his force training, that game was called Jedi Academy, it was no longer a Dark Forces game. It was a different game in play and in title.
I agree that politics are very big in the Dragon age games and enjoy that aspect.
Well, because there are only 2 dragon age games out, its hard to know what the identity of this universe is about for me to argue that dragon age is about darkspawn and wardens instead of mages and templars. But with Star Wars, its about lightsabers, the force, and epic space battles.
I guess we will see how DA3 turns out. For me, I would like the story of the templars and mages to connect more with DA:O and with the darkspawn. Perhaps then, DA2 and DA:O will have more in common because of DA3. bring it to full circle.
cheers addiction, you got me thinking about what makes stories important to me. I learned that I value consistence themes in stories and that may not be necesarily shared by others.
