This is a different approach to IT. It is based on in-game dialogue. Take a look at some of the examples I added at the end of the OP. =)

Also, not everyone who supports IT would agree with my conclusions.

This is my personal thread because it is my personal interpretation. =)

Everything about "the ending was an illusion" is IT. But if IT group started to fall apart from within, then it's a good sign. This means that soon IT will stop existing forever. Hopefully because ITers just tired of that IT nonsense themselves already.

You don't like IT?
Since you are the undefeated master of utter nonsense I though you would appreciate such theories?

But if IT group started to fall apart- Seival.

It hasn't. We all still together, and it's been great. It's just we have diffrent opinions, and right now we are just waiting to start Mark 4. Also very good DD, and I see you used some of the quotes we all gathered. I will post a few more that I found in the IT quotes list.

I hate the idea of condensing 4 very different endings into 1 bespoke one. And why would BioWare spend so much money on the Extended Cut if they were planning a big reveal anyway?

A hero is as good as his adversary. If the only way we can win conventionally is by making the Reapers weaker, by retconning their numbers, then I don't want to win conventionally.

That would be a hollow victory.

As should you Seival. Although this is DD's thread, and he is duing this independently. He did all of this on his own, except the quotes. That's a thing he wanted to add to his collection of ME quotes.Personaly I can't wait to start Mark 4 after three has reached it's maximum page length.

On that note. I am going to go watch Gundam Wing.

Yeah, thanks, MB! There's some of your quotes in there, too.

Because that's exactly what they want you to wonder. They were probably planning to do a reveal either at the end of the ME3 DLC cycle or with the next game. They're simply saving the best for last. In the mean time, they need to keep up the illusion. They're doing something that has never been done before, and they're willing to go lengths to fool everybody into thinking that this is it.

The EC gave them the chance to perfect the illusion of the endings. It wouldn't even surprise me if the teleporting squadmates, destroyed relays and random Normandy escape were intentionally put there to:

1. Hint that something was off about the ending, so people would start digging.
2. Fool the rest of us into thinking they screwed up miserably.

Why do you think we got an RGB ending? It's a hint! It's a freaking Reaper illusion with a few changed variables! It's such a huge joke!

The outrage may have been bigger than they anticipated although given some of the quotes that I posted it seems like they at least had an idea that people were going to be pissed off.

I'm not going to say the extended cut was planned, I don't believe that. But I do think the original plotholes were way too stupid to not be intentional. I mean: dead Garrus on the beam run, alive on the Normandy, really?

The destroyed relays are a major clue, because it is symbolic of rejecting Reaper technology, not wanting to use the crucible, but wanting to blow it up (which is why you shoot the damn tube instead of push a big red button). The Crucible is exactly the same as the relays. Nobody knows who designed it. Of course it's the Reapers. By using it, we develop along the paths they desire. Isn't it obvious?

In any case, the extended cut gave them the chance to take the prank even further, to pretend as if they were going to fix it. All the obvious issues were addressed, and now they can act completely like Shepard is over and done. Shepard is metaphorically dead. They want us to go through what Shepard goes through.

And then we will wake up.

So when the day comes that you will hear Harbinger gloat about how you surrendered your form to him when you dove down the synthesis beam, don't say I didn't warn you.

Or, in the words of the mad Batarian preacher from the Omega DLC:

"You were warned! You were all warned! Watch now as the hands of the Reapers, the human invaders, lay ruin to all we hold dear! Draw your weapons for the word, my friends! Draw your weapons and fight! Else certain doom awaits us all!"

I've come a conclusion. I would welcome IT DLC/ME4 with open arms. I would love for this to be used. But I don't think it will happen.

I would love to be wrong

For further clarification.  I'm not an ITer, I just think it would be great if BioWare ran with it.

It would be frakking hilarious. And I'm telling you, I'm already laughing at some of the stuff they put in the game. I mean, come on.

There's only a demo version of the Shepard VI, because SOME KID spilled soda over the hardware!!! It's freaking hilarious. And they have everybody fooled!

That's Bioware making jokes you may not pick up on, until you've played the next game.

Yeah, and sometimes fiction is made to fool you.

Fight Club, Sixth Sense, Mulholland Drive, you name them.

People don't expect it from a game, which is precisely why it is so successful: it is an interactive medium.

Agreed! :)

Leviathan confirmed that IT is a valid possibility, because it establishes that Leviathans can read your mind, take images from your memories, and use them to show you an illusion. And then they explain how Reapers have this same ability to influence organics, (not to mention the first Reaper was made from harvested Leviathans - I think it wanted to harness their genetic ability to control organics), and they have, over countless cycles perfected the technique to indoctrination.

That's Bioware telling you that yes, Reapers can build illusions like that. They have perfected the art. And they even include a complete parallel to the first moment in the decision chamber.

Shepard is on hands and knees, on the Citadel, child walks over, and says 'wake up'.
Shepard is on hands and knees, on the ground. Ann walks over and says 'breathe'.

Yet in Leviathan, we know that

1. Shepard isn't on the ground, he's really in a mech suit.
2. That isn't Ann Bryson we see, it's a Leviathan projection.

If we translate this to the decision chamber scene, that means that

1. Shepard isn't on the Citadel, he's really in London.
2. That isn't the "catalyst" we see, it's a Reaper projection.

Then if we put 'breathe' and 'wake up' together, we know that the breath scene means that you wake up. It's a major clue.

Why would Leviathan tell Shepard to breathe? It's all intentional symbolism and parallels.

OP, you've forgot something else!! The Stargazer scene! The dialogue gives a few hints!

"Did that really happen?"

"Yes, but some of the details have been lost in time. It all happened very long ago."

When you think about the "details lost in time" part and the part in the Leviathan DLC where Bryson says "With new information we've uncovered, a breakthrough is near", your theory is almost on the right track... Or directly on the right track.

Right, I totally forgot about that!

It's a major clue.  "One more story about the Shepard..."

Will add to OP, thanks!

You're welcome! Oh yeah! On the Leviathan DLC, remember that guy who shot Bryson under the Leviathan's control? I think his name was Hadley. He appeared in the Extended Cut endings in Alliance armor shooting Husks. The Extended Cut showed him as if we've seen him before in the main game, but the truth is, we haven't yet. Not until the Leviathan DLC. Could he have joined the war to redeem himself from killing Bryson? Another hint. ;)

You're giving Bioware WAY too much credit. Otherwise Dragon Age 2 would have been a masterpiece as well, and not the utter flop it was.

The fact they're actually asking fans their opinions on what DA3 and ME4 should be is a sign of weakness. No good storyteller ever asks the audience on what the story should be. If you have a good story, you share it no matter what others may think (kinda like what Bioware used to do...)

Dragon Age is a different story. Who knows what happened there. I think for Mass Effect they had a really good plan. We'll see.
