Does anyone know of any performance guides or anything showing the impact of anti-aliasing on the game? I'd really like to add some significant AA, because I get some major aliasing, but I get sporadic frame rate drops, and it's hard to tell if doing so has a significant impact on that or not.
I have all of the settings fully maxed out, except AA (I think I'm running 2x, but it's not really doing much), but I have a top of the line system, so usually the game runs great. Is there, perhaps, something else I could drop, in favor of some better AA? And can anyone recommend whether or not to use the game's AA, or to allow the Catalyst Control Center to pick some specific flavor of AA?

It probably depends on what OS you're using: I found I could crank up AA pretty high on XP without too much performance loss, but on Windows 7 it's been a different matter, where any attempt to adjust it in CCC has incurred a huge performance penalty for me. I'm not sure of the exact mechanics behind it, from what I understand it's something to do with a change in how DirectX works, but it seems that the result is having to live without decent AA (or very bad framerates), unfortunately.

OS not nearly as much as your system, I'm afraid.
That said it basically comes down to your hardware and how it's configured.
Resolution? if you're playing at 1024 X 768, antialiasing "might help", inversely however if you play at 1920 X 1200, then AA is nearly useless, and if your system is not capable of handling the extra load you should upgrade the hardware.

The only thing that changed on my system is the OS: both were installed on the same PC. AA was fine with XP, and very bad with Windows 7, so the OS had a significant effect in my experience; though other people's experiences may be different: it's possible different drivers may have an effect, though I was led to believe that DirectX is the most likely culprit when it comes to AA (though personally I don't know one way or the other). That said, the graphics performance does seem better overall. Just not if you want AA.ohupthis wrote...

Have CCC set to use application settings as far as the AA is concerned, other portions of CCC you can adjust depending on system specs.
