That is not a graphics card, it's a chipset. The game won't run with that. You need an actual ATI or NVidia graphics card.

Your problem is the reason that the post named "Beam us down a Game Card Scotty" was written, to explain the tech stuff without the really tech style vocabulary, and the same for "PC Hardware Basics for Game Playing", already linked in one of the very many duplicate threads.

You can't replace it its usually built in on the motherboard. =)

But you can usually just buy and insert one and then disable the onboard one.

You can get a very good gfx card for less than 400$

http://www.intel.com...b/cs-014257.htm

Intel® G31, G33, Q33, and Q35 Express Chipsets 2.0(1) 2.0

Seems your chipset only supports 2.0 and theres a note to it saying:

NOTES:

1 Intel provides an optimized graphics pipeline for shader processing that is included in Microsoft DirectX*. This can be used by games to provide software (SW) shader processing.

I don't know how to interpret that I guess its saying that it isn't hardware supported 2.0 but software supported?

Try this page: It should tell you if you are lacking something else to run the game. But don't take it word for word it can make mistakes too.

http://cyri.systemre...lab.com/srtest/

and choose dragons age: Origins from the drop down menu.

For example this is what I get:

Video Card

Minimum: XP: 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT or greater; ATI Radeon X850 or greater (Vista/7: 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT; ATI Radeon X1550)

You Have: GeForce 8800 GT

PASS

Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card

Required You Have

Video RAM XP: 128 MB, Vista/7: 256 MB 1.2 GB

Hardware T&L Yes Yes

Pixel Shader version XP: 2.0, Vista/7: 3.0 4.0

Vertex Shader version XP: 2.0, Vista/7: 3.0 4.0

When I said you can't replace it, I meant the onboard chipset ofcourse not the PSU which you can replace, unless you bought some computer brand which allows only their PSU's to be installed due to some nonstandard, which probably isn't the case.

You can't go wrong with atleast a Geforce 8800 GT if your system supports it. Imo, shouldn't be too heavy on the PSU, requirements are 400W maybe.

Watts are irrelevent if there is insufficient power on the +12v.  I would not use an 8800GT without a PSU that has a minimum of 30A on the +12v.  Do they even sell the 8800 Gt anymore?

Yes but in the correct order. You need to install the new card and get it working then disable your old one. (need to be able to see what you're doing). If you really have that limited computer knowledge I'd let a tech do it, this way they will know what cards will work etc. You'll need the right slot type and a card to fit it. Just take the recommendations from here for the type of card you want to a shop and tell them what you need to have done.

Adding a graphics card in a pci-e slot should automatically disable onboard video, so you shouldn't have to disable anything manually. You will need to uninstall the onboard video driver through add/remove programs in your control panel before adding the new card and before you install the new drivers for the new card.

edit:
Just saw Ghost_Writer's reply.  I agree that you should have someone else do the installation for you as this may be a bit too complicated for you.  What you should be concentrating on is what upgrades you want to make.  You really should be proactive and do some research to find the best card and possible PSU in your budget.  I fear that if you do nothing and allow a tech to make the decisions for you, you may get an upgrade that you will not like and may find that your upgrade is insufficient.  Best of luck to you.

I recommend a 9600GT nividia its cheap! i got it for $130, jus look around. This graphics card can play dragon age origins on high. i would not go for 9800GT spending extra cash for similar performance graphics card is not worth it . Installing graphics does automatically disable onboard graphics as motherboard reads a more powerful card working after you install the software that contains with it. If your confident enough to install it yourself it is easy just read instruction manual  (graphics card box comes with all instructions where to insert it) if not would highly recommend to get someone to do it for you dont want to see you making any mistakes. Any way is this store bought or bought from an online shop that sell comp parts as you might break you warranty if you open the case.

Are you using a PC or a Laptop?

If it's a PC then, a GTX250 or GTX 260 would be just peachy. but you will need a better powersupply.

As for a laptop you could use it as a coaster, just kidding, I can't help.

Theres no point of getting a expensive graphics card if your cpu ( your intel pentium 2.4 GHz) is rather quite slow compared todays cpu's if you want to spend on a really expensive graphics card you will have to upgrade to atleast 500 Watts power supply which will cost around $90 and would recommend another cpu which will be around $200 this means your motherboard cant support your new cpu and has to be replaced which is another $150. this is all becasue buying a real powerful graphics card is a waste because you will not see half of its potential as your cpu is very slow. If you are prepared to buy a new GTX260 graphics card you should be prepared to spend an extra $450.

Bradley, my processor is a T7250 (dual 2.0) and I can run the game...

I have a fast HD, though... 7200rpm - that REALLY helped on running games ;)

There is no comparison possible between any of the Netburst (P4) Pentiums and anything with a Core connection.  The Pentium Dual is the weakest Core of all, being much more of a Celeron than a C2D, but a 2.4 GHz Pentium Dual equals almost any very fast P4, unless perhaps the very last P4D Extreme.  The OP has a much slower CPU than that (P4 at 2.4 GHz, it seems).
