Yup.

And Brave New World, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Lords of Discipline, Year of the Black Rainbow, and... I dunno. That's all the books I've read that immediately come to mind, though I've certainly read others.

The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Sadly I can´t explain why I liked it without spoiling the biggest twist.

Hmm,

under fun facts I'ld say to take a look at,

History's Monsters by Simon Sebag Montefiore

How Did it Really Happen? Readers Digest publication

You did what/ You said what? Bill Fawcett

I know of several more military related books in this section, not sure if thats your thing, and I have a wide range of books on global myths & legends, plus a few in philosophical works concerning religion and political thought. Several more on Historical topics.

Anyways moving on to Scifi. I'ld say take a look at the Mechwarrior Dark Ages series as well as WarHammer 40k. Whole slew of writers working on both and the styles they use differ widely. Some are miss and some are hits. Also read pretty much anything wrote by Timothy Zahn. Outbound Flight and The Choices of One are his must recent works.

As to my own recommendations, I see things like SoI&F has been coverd so I won't cover that, but I would say read Red Storm Rising, by tom clancy one of my all time fav reads. And imo the only good book he ever made thats not full on US favortism piece.

Also, if you're okay with black humor, look for 'John Dies at the End' by David Wong. Issgud.

Shameless self-promotion warning . . .

Calasade: Strife (Sword & Sorcery, soon to be out)

The prologue and first chapter are available in PDF format on Strife's Facebook page if you care for a free preview.

*Shameless self-promotion over*

You cannot go wrong with anything by Robert E. Howard.

I highly recommend Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. In particular, Small Gods is one of my favorites. Feet of Clay is pretty neat, too.

Beat me to it.

Yeh me too...

Other than that, the Halo books are a good read, all... a lot of them.

Dune - Frank Herbert
A Song of Ice and Fire - George R.R. Martin
The Wheel of Time - Robert Jordan
The Incarnations - Piers Anthony
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
The Dark Tower - Stephen King

These are all longer series that spread accross multiple books within the sci-fi genre and fantasy genre that I personally really enjoyed and would recommend (with the exception of 1 of the Incarnation series books...).

You should read "The Passage" by Justin Cronin, the sequel "The Twelve" came out about a month ago, and I really want to read it.

How to Ruin your Boyfriend's Reputation - Simone Elkeles

Here's a music video about it.

This is the greatest book that I have ever read, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I'd recommend The Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson, but it'll be heavy on your wallet as there are currently 10 books published in the main series, 6 tie-ins by co creator Ian Cameron Esslemont, 5 spin-offs, and the first of a prequel trilogy.

Try to get the main titles rather than getting the whole series as it's costly.

Seems a bit off from the kind of books the OP was looking for but still a good read nonetheless...

50 Shades of Grey but only this audio version.

I've never wanted anything so much in all my life. Tell me there's a full version.

I recommend:

A Song of Ice and Fire series.

The Witcher Series.

The Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weekes.

Pretty much anything by David Gemmell.

A short history of nearly everything by Bill Bryson.
It's about science , with tons of funny facts.
Like how did we measure the world the galaxy etc...knowledge that happened by accidents etc...

It's really really good , I'm not really into science and I loved the book.
