Does anyone know how to get -if available- a re-spec potion for the MAC version of the game? I'm a complete newbie at computer gaming. Always played on consoles. Thanks for any help!

Hello fellow Mac users, I just purchased, downloaded and installed DA:O yesterday. However, I'm facing the problem of not being able to log-in in the game's main menu screen as it said 'you are currently not connected to the internet...' when I'm actually connected. I've done some reading on other forums and it seems a number of people are facing the same issue, however most of the workarounds/solutions are for the Windows version of the game running on Windows XP/Vista/7 and I can't seem to find any as regards to a Mac. Anyone of you here are facing the same problem but have a workaround for it? Do let me know.

I've got the same problem and would be very grateful for any solutions to this problem.

Just FYI, I tried applying the windows 1.02a patch by copying it into DragonAgeOrigins.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/, then changing DragonAgeOrigins.app/Contents/Info.plist->CedegaGameName to c:\\DragonAge1.02a.exe and running DragonAgeOrigins.app/Contents/MacOS/cider. It patches a few files but then stops with

Applying MODIFY File Patch for 'modules\\single player\\data\\al_den921ar_wide_1.rim'

error ept0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was

found. No update done since file contents do not match.

Ah well, it was worth a try.

Just venting since I finally am allowed to post on the forums after registering my Mac game as a PC game...

Once you read the Wikipedia definition of PC it all makes sense: http://en.wikipedia....rsonal_computer ;-) .

Does anybody have a clue as to install the available content? I downloaded the full edition and have everything like Soldier's Peak, etc, but there are also addins that I've been able to add on the Windows side, there is an installer, but I don't know how to do it on the Mac side.

You can use Modazipin to install dazips. See that thread for links.

Hi! I have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I've had DAO for Mac since the beginning of January, but have only recently started to participate in the Bioware online features (forum, etc. -- way to go Bioware for creating a Mac forum, btw.)

The thing is that there seems to be some sort of bug between my game and online. When I'm logged in, my achievements update, but none of my characters or progress upload at all. Is there something I'm missing here, or is this just a bug?

Thanks!

Make sure all your ports (I think it's 80, 8000 through 8002, and 18081) are mapped through your firewall, router, etc. and the DragonAge and daupdater  apps are permitted to send/recieve data through the firewall.

Apart from that, the same happens to me. My achievements anways show up first, then, a few hours or days later, the rest shows up.

Sometimes it also helps to refresh the pages or empty the cache.

Cider is bad. While it seems appealing because it appears that it can (potentially) save the developer some time in doing cross platform development, it's really just a lazy substitute for doing things the right way. I've been dealing with Cider for over a year now in one of my other games, and the bugs are knee deep. Patches, while simultaneously rolling out for mac and windows versions, often don't work on the mac, or introduce new bugs, break existing features, etc. Patches requiring patches requiring patches. It's a really poor way to program, as it is, at its core, a method of emulation. It just happens to be (usually) fast enough to leave games playable, thanks to Apple using Intel processors and ATI and NVIDIA gpus. Far better is to do what Valve is apparently doing, using OpenGL and simultaneously building on both platforms from a common base, rather than using cider to run the windows version on the mac. Death to Transgaming.

What I've read on the PC side, however, the profile update delays seem to be site-related, and not system-dependent. Means everybody gets these delays.

this might be a dumb question, but does Modazipin work to install dlc (i.e. RtO, Warden's Keep) on mac? if so (that is awesome, sweet work jhime), does anyone know how you get a hold of dlc  for mac versions? i bought the standard version and now i wish i got the deluxe...

thanks

Considering those games were released on PC years ago I'd have to disagree- maybe if you referred to Blizzard's coding ethics, yes. Valve's? No. Although I hope you're right and that will be their coding ethics from now on.

As far as Cider goes I'm grateful for it. Would I even be trying some games like Dragon Age otherwise? I highly doubt it. Cider's a tool that reduces the overhead of making a Mac OS X version of Wintel software available for Mac and Linux- and its historically been the "bean-counters" whom play a huge part in killing Mac ports, sometimes even when close to completion, ie; Half Life 1.

Yep you can, check my FAQ about RtO to see how it's done, if you're skilled enough it should be simple to apply the same ideas to the other DLC, you can use Modazipin to do so and manually download the DLC, purchasing is the tricky part though I belive you can buy Warden's Keep from the Games > DAO > Official DLC tab in this BioWare social network page. You'd still have to install it manually like I said though.

Thanks! I stumbled on your FAQ in the forums as well, so far RtO is working fine. I got the points for Warden's Keep yet now I'm looking for a way to actually download the DLC for manual install...
any pointers there?

EDIT: Found it! http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613
Thanks again for the help

Is there any way to launch the game directly, instead of having to go through the launcher?

The reason why I ask: I want to use a mod called combat tweaks, but there is combat lag on larger battles. PC users reported that running the executable instead of the launcher helps with this issue.

Also, does Snow Leopard come with an antivirus? If so, how do I turn it off (again, to help with combat tweaks functionality)?

Is there such a thing as 'Mac support' for this game or what? :(

I haven't tried the official support myself, but from what I hear it's pretty much nonexistent. It might be a better choice to contact gametreeonline than EA though. At least they helped me with SPORE (another EA game).

I don't see how starting the executable directly would help anything, but here's an applescript snippet if you want to do it.

tell application "Finder" to set p to POSIX path of (application file id "com.transgaming.cider.dragonageorigins" as string) & "/Contents/MacOS/cider"
do shell script ("\\"" & p & "\\"")

Note that the launcher does an automatic check for updates so you might want to run it once in a while

IIRC, both EA and BioWare support direct you to this very forum. So, yes, there IS a Mac support, and it is... us!

I just installed the game and would really appreciate some help! I use a trackball (Kensington Expert Mouse) and was hoping somebody could tell me how to use it instead of the keyboard (W.S,.Q,E). I absolutely hate using the keyboard (my character once got killed while I was looking at the damn keys in another game lol) and can't get the controls to accept the mouse instead. When I try to do it in options the game freezes. I haven't been able to find any info on this - is it possible? If not, I'm afraid I'm done before I even got started!

Thanks for any help you can provide!

This took me forever to figure out! You actually have to register your MAC game as a PC game.

Why on earth has this information not be plastered somewhere obvious?  I have spend days trying to figure out why I could not register my game here and of course, without it being registered I was unable to post a question here for help.

At last!  Thank you Bstanley xox

Technically, a Mac is a PC (Personal Computer) too, despite different claims by Apple. B)

Agreed on the technicality Marvin :) , but as we must differentiate when purchasing/downloading software it would have been logical & helpful if the web designer had just added "including Mac" to the descriptions.

windows are meant to be on walls, not computers.
