Castles again, really?

I’d much prefer to travel around in my own ship... hauling the main sail & tying down the thingy to the what’it, perhaps hiring my self out as a convoy escort or going pirate!

I could spend my hard earned cash on marines or some bigger cannon... speaking of cannon aren’t we supposed to be looking for the champion?  I don’t know about you guys but in my campaign he disappeared over the horizon whilst fondling a buck some brunette with a serious dagger fetish, good luck hunting a pirate ship from your castle... your gonna need it.

A tavern would be a nice thing. All of your companions have their own room. If you romance someone they move into your room. It make sit easier for you to get to them without having to go all over the city. And they have their privacy at the same time. They could maybe walk around the tavern. You could catch two of your companions at the bar xD

I think it should be like fable where- Wait come back I haven't finished! I'm joking of course. I quite like those ideas The only problem I can see with a ship is space and by that I mean disc space. But you never know...

Why does a ship take up more space than a Castle/ Tavern? The only real difference from a rendering view is that one is square and the other has a pointy end.

Whilst I like a tavern in a game set in a single city, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense when travelling around the world following Huge armies... I mean, the hero decides to swap swords for this battle and has to say to the general;

“Hang about here for a year whilst I just pop back to Orzammar and grab my fire sword... what you mean no?”

I believe they are going with a Keep/Castle a bit like the one we got through DLC in DA:O but all our followers will be there. There is a concept art image on youtube.

I wasn't really fond of Hawke's mansion in DA2. It seemed pretty dead except if an npc visited it. If there is a castle in DA3, I hope it's not like the one in NWN2, where you had to spend endless amounts of time and money repairing and furnishing it. It seemed like it wasn't really necessary.

I would prefer something like in Baldur's Gate where there was usually a tavern wherever you traveled to, and you could socialize with your companions...or, have a place for lovescenes, drinking contests and even bar fights.

Please don't have another camp where everyone just stood around, doing nothing.

The biggest problem I see with a ship is that it kind of needs a naval adventure to work. Something with a lot of sea, and many diverse coastal places.
I'm not sure Orlais qualifies.

AFAIA The point of a castle was to defend against ships, yes the army/ pirates attack on foot but they don't walk from one country to the next unless you are happy to keep them in your army for life. IMO it works better than walking but I was thinking more along the lines of our ship{s} sails to counrty (insert something here) then we dock and go scouting... I'll have to wait and see when NWN2,  DA3 comes out.

O’goody, we get to upgrade the roads and send out patrols again... maybe if we’re very good then we can look for ore to mine?

It was a nice dream...

A good place to use for a camp would be in a castle of some sort. Either your character takes it by force, or he/she...inheretes it. All your companions could have their own rooms, and they would be free to move about the castle at will. Make it like the estate Bann Teagan had at the end of DAO. It was relatively big, but it housed your companions quite nice. In DA2 the mansion felt small, cold, and alone(just like Morrigan's heart) make it less lke that.

It would also be ideal to have some action going down at the castle to. Near the end of the game your castle is surrounded by darkspawn, mercenaries, or a rivaling nation, make your love interest pull an Isabela. Let it be he/she who started it and they would finish it with their death, and then they would fling themself out the window for a self-sacrifice. Or be even more Isabela, and let he/she sneak to one of the back windows or doors of the castle, and leave you there, surrounded by chaos.

Make the castle, camp, stronghold, cave, fortress of Solitude, whatever, have more meaning and depth to it, that's all i'm saying. As explained in long-winded paragraphs above.

I have a feeling it'll be sort of like the Normandy or a condensed Kirkwall. If we have a bar star he'll be in the pub crushing drinks. A military guy will be in the barracks.

However, I'm still not convinced we're gonna have a castle.

The fun thing about the Normandy though is that characters would move. I'd go to visit someone and discover he's not there lol he's in the mess hall chatting with someone else. That was nice.

If some of the leaked info is to be believed, you won't just be the leader of a merry band of misfits, you're going to be the head of an entire organization and the Keep will be the home base for that organization.

Also ussnorway, you're thinking of forts, not castles. Forts were often near coastal towns to protect them from raiders. Castles were built in strategic locations to defend and maintain control over large areas of land. A large fort might garrison a small platoon, while castles often garrisoned entire armies.

Also the whole ship idea just doesn't work, A ship as a home base only has access to coastal areas and Thedas is a continent, and a rather large one at that.

I look forward to a home base of any sort; I do, however, hope that the mechanics behind the purported keep are more sophisticated/engaging than DA:2. May we pleeeeeeaaaaaasssseeeeee have an economy/sovereignty sim tied in with the keep. Please :>???
