this has no bearing on the skill of the guys in this post but I do agree that some point are mistaken by what skilled players are. Ive played with plenty of self proclaimed pros and found that what their skill was was that they knew spawn points and they were just faster to get to their. Even a few times I made it a point to disrupt the spawn points by standing in them and what I found is that of the self proclaimed good players couldnt handle the less ideal situations. If mobs spawned behind them they would freak out and run away.

What makes a good player good is that they can handle the situations that get out of hand. The guy who can dip in and rez 1 or 2 players and still get out without too much problems, whether its by clearing out the area with a missle or postioning themselves so they can rez with cover.

Believe me Im not trying to say that spawn farming is cheating, I personally use it to thin out waves to speed up the game but I dont think Im a skilled player for it nor consider anyone who does it as such until they can display the real skill.

I judge players by a few criteria to determine whether they are skilled or not. Rez medals, it may not be that he/she gets gold but you can tell who the good player is by if there are rez medals and who got them. Why because good players realize that the more people that are alive the better it is to accomplish the goal. Objective waves, I will be the first to admit that kill targets distorts this but you can definitely tell whos the good players are, they are the ones that are either at the objective or clearing to it at most if not all times. Sure you can rack up points by standing on the other side of the map while the team is doing the objective but is it because you are focused on the points or helping the team... if you really think you are helping what happens when you die. Either the team has to decide to let you bleed out or risk losing the objective.

the one thing I have noticed with the few good players Ive played with (descy was the most recent) is that they are first and foremost good team players. Sure they tend to not be with the group at all times but they keep themselves close enough to help out when the group is in trouble. That to me what makes a good player, not score.

Iv'e heard a few of the posters in here say before that score is a tool to help tell just HOW good someone is, not if they are good in the first place.

Score matters, not nearly as much as some seem to think it does but it has it's purpose.

Hm. I just remember where I know the name sy7ar from. Yesterday, I started a match as a Krogan Vanguard by myself  to rank up some melee kills that ended up on gold/Cerberus/Firebase Dagger. And then halfway through the match this guy came in with some other players. He played a Geth Infiltrator with a Javelin and then went on to put a ridiculous score on the board. Even though I was more than 40,000 points ahead when they came in, his score topped mine easily.

Most games I play, I end up on top with 150,000 points or so.

I don't think he records, but I have seen vids he is in.  I saw a vid where he was a Volus with a Typhoon (I believe), and he outscored everyone (not a PUG).

I was curious, so I tried it out, and although I did okay, I doubt I'd ever be able to outscore my friends with that set up.

I agree with this. I'm happy to be a 100k behind Link with my Javelin GI on Goddess Plat. He was a level 5 Shadow.

I really need to put one of those games on youtube, so elite players can see what it's like to play with them from the other side

Do you always judge people like that? So if Feneckus decided one day that he would like to play with the Drell Vanguard using the Crusader and Javelin with the melee mod on the shotgun and the thermal scope on the sniper rifle, would that indicate that he is a bad player?

Sorry, but that logic just doesn't make any sense. He may not benefit the team as much when playing and he may die more than usual, but would he be a bad player? I don't think so

Not really. With the exception of the Feneckus who is in his late twenties, every top player is in his early twenties. Das kommt nicht von ungefaehr as you Germans like to say.

It's not quake live where every milliseconds counts and the smallest advantage makes a difference.

Also "Top players" in a game without player vs player mode?

Slack off on objective waves and you'll be doing 230k+ EVERYTIME on gold PUG. 

I was talking about it in the sense of helping to measure ability within a group of elite friends (preform) not demolishing a pug lobby.

Ya Link is pretty crazy. I remember the one game we were both Vorcha, running around the map flaming all the things. It was awhile ago (I think I actually beat him that one by a thousand points or so ) but if I recall we finished the game in just over 16 minutes and the two other players with us struggled to score 40k points and they were by no means bad.

Link is the best player I've played with for sure, although I should say I've never played with Jay so who knows.
