It is sooo good to be back at Candlekeep. Imoen tickles me much as ever.

Based on what little I've seen, Overhaul Games has really done a great job.

Well I am happy to report I am officially playing BG:EE. If anyone is interested in doing a multiplayer game send me a private message and we can set something up.

They named the default Fighter Abdel after the main character in the books... I wont lie, I thought the BG books were pretty terrible.

Everyone thinks books are terrible so no prob :) Even without any writing skills i know i am able to write a better one... Just copy paste one  of the playthroughs and bam!

BTW played a little bit this morning before going to work, just rushed myself to Gorion vs Sarevok. They really upgraded that battle at last :) He even cast a fireball !

Forget the fireball, I am more interested in stoneskin!

So far I have Jaheira and Kaleid and am making my way south. I havent experienced any serious bugs or game crashes yet, maybe a couple twitchy visuals but overall so far its looking good.

Are they complaining about anything noteworthy in particular? Or just typical "why isnt X this way?" complaining?

I STILL can't speak with charmed NPCs. AAARGHHHHHH. This used to be pretty cool, even significant feature in vanilla BG. There are tons of dialogue in vanilla BG you'd only get like this. Most people have never seen this dialogue since Tutu made the feature malfunction and thusly relevant piles of text in Tutu or BGT are simply unavailable and scrapped.

I find it unpleasant and..bothersome in one or two different ways how this is..
A) ...a flaw Tutu introduced. Somehow, it remained through a decade of (otherwise awesome)Tut development.
B) ....introduced-by-free-community-overhaul - flaw that carries over  to commercial release of BGEE. I hate the writing on the wall here.

Fairlly bummed about this. This was a huge deal for me. If someone had asked me beforehand a top 5 reasons why I'd justify BGEE over Tutu or BGT, this would surely have been on that list. I foolishly never considered this wouldn't be on list of Tutu things they'd want to improve.

Other than that everything* about this seems pretty great. I played some 90 mins today and had great time. I did crazy things like wrote a character profile and started in-game journal. Haha. Never before had Familiar of lawful evil mage. The little bastard can polymorph to an Ogre, poor Candlekeep assasins didn't see that one a-comin mHWHAHAHA

* " everything" most assuredly does NOT include opening cinematic which looks thoroughly ****ing horrible.

Mostly "why isnt X this way" which shadows some legimate bugs/issuies sadly, like constant crashes, invisible mouse pointer and some kit/classs problems.

Edit: Yeah im not fond of new cinematics too they should have put more effort in it and cutting off some lines is bad. Im pretty sure that poor guy said "I can help you to find others" before Sarevok throw him.

Idd he does. Strictly plot-wise, excluding that pretty much amputates half of what the opening used to be about. I'm not even bothered by that. I'm bothered by how cheap, amateurish and bad  it looks. It is possible to make a  cheap  mostly-non-animated-dudes-do-stuff type of an opening cinematic that is  moody and awesome. Icewind Dale I is prolly closest and most obvious example here. One in BGEE looks horrible. Those Flash "moves" ...aargh:l
If they entirely change the..uh, medium they use to present the opening with, why on earth do they try to manage a 1:1 version of the original anyway?! You really don't want to make goddamned Flash moves on your cinematic...
...unless you are 12th grader and it is the night before your presentation about Volcanoes.

Those mutton-mongering riff-raff.

Well theres a couple things they could have removed/forgot about which I am glad they didnt. I got my Ring of Wizardry from the Friendly Arm Inn which I admit was much easier to find this time around with the BGII tab feature added in. Plus those wonderful pantaloons.

Making it possible to talk to charmed NPC's sounds like it could be a really cool plus, maybe someone will patch or mod that in eventually?

As for the opening cinematic change I don't think it was necessary but I don't mind the change in style either, I do agree it could have been handled better.

The opening cinematic could have been better. While I like the style change from an aesthetic point of view (reminded me of a graphic novel) I was not a fan of the stop-go animation. I think they should have just redone the original so it looks good on widescreen. Cutting the opening cinematic = bad idea. It took away some of the plot, which is not a big deal for those who have played it before, but for newcomers, they're missing out on a few lines that up the ante.

That said, I am having a blast with BG:EE and have had no bug issues. I picked up Neera and am in Beregost going through all the quests there before moving on. I need to return to the Friendly Arm. As per Isichar's post, it seems I may have missed a couple of things. :)

Id get the ring asap if you got a mage, its on the Friendly arm Inn map just south of the keep at the end of the map. I was going to use Imoen, Jaheira, Kaleid, Minsk and Dynaheir but I picked up Neera too so I am debating who else I will grab, maybe Kivan.

Just make sure to grab the pantaloons before you beat the game for when they do BG2:EE.

I think that will be my next destination, returning to the Friendly Arm. Thanks for the reminder about the pantaloons!

Killing the spiders and grabbing the boots and wine in Beregost for that dwarf at the Friendly Arm Inn gives you a good excuse to go back.

I will be using my assassin, Kivan, Neera, Branwen and Ajantis. Maybe take new monk just for his quest.

Am I a terrible BSN-dweller if I dislike how there's no S/S LI for female Charnames in the EE yet?

Downloading the game now, can't wait to start anew =)

I haven't bought it yet, but I think I'll get a mod to replace the opening cinematic with the original one. I saw it on YouTube, and decided the original was much better.

Agreed. I miss the attempt at bargining, and just everything.  Some nice visuals, but the original was perfect.

True. I am also very pleased with EE version of Baldur's Gate. it runs much better and improves a lot from original BG and Easy Tutu Mod.

Well it's more or less the game I remember but looks very good on my widescreen TV. Works for me.

However, now that there aren't "Large swords" and such I can't figure out which weapons to pick. I intend to create a pure kensai that will (eventually) go through BG2EE as well.

But if I pick, say, bastard swords or flails, will I be stuck with a +1 at most? Who knows, but it would suck to be the grandmaster of non-magic weapons. Katanas are cool too, but they had the most boring selection in the old BG2 and I don't want to be stuck with that again.

I also made a conjurer and was lucky enough to roll 90 fairly quickly. That's good enough to max dex, int and wis (needed for Wish).

I can't decide on a class:l

I want pure mage so I get to gather all of them spells!! ALL! Also, I can cast Wish and Limited Wish when BG2:EE is released around 2022...
....But frag that modest amount of spells a normal mage can manage:l

I want Conjurer! Best specialist mage class, tons of spells due to specialization bonus!
.....But no Wish or Limited Wish or Identification or..

I want Enchanter purely for Roleplaying reasons.
... No other sane reason to pick him over Conjurer though

I want Cleric/Mage multiclass! So many spells<3
....But lack of identity. Tis AD&D 2nd ed baby! I want my coffee hot, daggers pointy and classes pure. White beards, strong warriors, sneaky thieves and PURE MAGES.

Ok that does it, pure mage it is.

...Or maybe Enchanter..

I'll prolly wait til Xmas or so for few patches, couple of mods that hopefully erase those edgy corners, bugs and any depressing aftertaste of iPad from UI.

So far I've been testing about a bit here and there. I haven't even left Candlekeep yet. Already Baldur's Gate is showing it's claws again. Again it is  giving that incredibly satisfying, almost Roquelike-like feeling of YOU AND THE GAME writing small stories together, ones devs of the game necessarily never really had in mind or thought of. This is something I'm always quaranteed to love in any video game, specially in RPGs. This is a feature that instantly does things to a Dialogue Wheel that are illegal almost everywhere and highly illegal in Texas.

I rolled a Lawful Evil Mage. Turns out he get's an Imp Familiar that is able to Polymorph INTO AN OGRE.  Two minutes later I'm upstairs of the inn, watching with glee as my formely impish Ogre servant smashes every single goddamned lock and loots goodies that are (propably) ment exclusively for thieves to find!  I found like 30 gold, necklace, two(2! spell scrolls  and some POTION!!! They never suspect Stradlin the weakling mage! WMAHAHAHA WORLD IS MINE! Ogre and awesome are  connected now.

I'm incrediby glad BG:EE exists. I'm happy I bought it and I sincrely hope we get tons of all sorts of rip off DLCs and  BG2:EE ASAP.( I'd actually buy that ****ing ridiculous custom portrait set if I could.) Still, I find it insanely finger nail chewingly IRONIC how we now have a poorly assembled PC port** of an iPad version of game traditionally seen as one of the very pillars and icons of PC gaming. My Baldur's Gate  clearly has good number of little...features in resolution, UI and menus that just scream iPad:l My Baldur's Gate:mellow: I challenge anyone to open " Video Options" of the game without going " ........." and having a child in them die a little.

**If we consider exclusively the tecnical portion of porting the game, nothing else.
