Well the launcher can apply updates, probably in program files. The game itself, if it is properly compliant with Windows Vista/7 rules will put modifiable files in other folders and run without admin rights. That would explain why the launcher needs rights but the game doesn't. Again it's a hipfire guess, I haven't looked at it myself.

I have converted older software to Win 7 myself, and usually it boils down to moving config files and such out of program files and into "application data".

Oh, I'm being boring again. Sorry :)

I guess I called it correctly. The current update fixed my need to have admin rights turned on. Which means they took care of all the issues I was having with it. So I give them a thumbs up on taking care of things in a relatively timely fashion.

Thats why Im fine with shaky launches as long as they start patching the major issues asap, which it seems like they are doing. Always nice when you can just play your game without having to go through some ridiculous process.

Playing BG:EE as we speak, first time through BG as an evil PC.

I am kind of in love with Dorn.

Yep, Dorn basically replaced Minsc. I really like Neera, too.

As much as I like the new characters (except Rasaad because monks suck in BG1), I am left wondering where the awesome GOOD characters are. Seems everyone loves being evil. Me, not so much. For some reason, some of the evil characters are just powerhouses while the good characters are often left with crappy stats or multiclasses you don't really want or need. Edwin, for example, is so far beyond the good mages it's ridiculous. But it's worse in BG2 when Viconia gets a huge buff and evil parties are left with the best mage, the best fighter and the best cleric.

Not to mention Korgan is a pretty decent tank, I found the evil party in BG2 was extremely solid as well.

I typically tend to play a good guy as well, and part of been the good guy is sometimes you have to make things work even when the odds are stacked against you :D

True I guess, and at least some of the neutral characters are great! I do get tired of some of the good ones. Khalid for example is pathetic and sounds like a cartoon character. I don't hate him, but someone like Edwin is just much, much cooler!

By the way, I have now tried the iPad version. Overall I felt it worked very well, but picking up small items on the ground can be somewhat difficult. Still, I'm impressed with how well it ran there and how good it looks.

The price is pretty low too (for some reason half that of the PC version) if you think about them actually going through the trouble of porting it to iOS. I have worked a bit with Android and iOS myself, and I know it can't have been particularly easy. That said, Android is going to be much worse. Or, that has been my experience anyway (no offense, I am an Android user myself).

I am expecting some issues, unfortunately, on my Android tablet with the screen size, since I use the Nexus 7.

Khalid makes an alright tank, Jaheira on the other hand is basically just an underpowered healer as far as I am concerned.

Jaheira's pretty good if you ask me. Evil gets better dedicated classes. But good gets more versatility. Like Aerie in 2. She's potentially a powerhouse. And of course, Keldorn is awesome. Imoen is great to.

My main party in 1 was my PC fighter, Minsc, Khalid, Jaheira, Imoen, and Dynaheir. But I swap characters to try and use everyone.

Khalid is an OK archer and i usually use Jaheria as a shapeshifter (bear as soon as she gets it) if i take them in my party.

Tough i usually prefer Kivan as my main archer and Yeslick (Branwen till getting to him) as cleric.

Jaheira is neutral so she doesn't really count.. But yeah, there's no risk of her leaving because of reputation.

Ajantis, Minsc and Kivan are all pretty good and good aligned.

Honestly, I agree with TV Tropes, that her character is generally really good, and only Neutral because of the rules.

I never really liked the alignment system that much anyway. Complex characters don't seem to fit the rules. Particularly, I think some of characters capable of the most evil deeds are not necessarily "evil" (in AD&D terms it generally just means you only care about yourself and the suffering of others) but actually do care about others, only their thinking has been twisted somehow.

Jaheira is a pretty good character to have with you in BG1 regardless. Decent healing, and she doesn't die from a light breeze.

I love Viconia even in my good aligned party. Doesnt hurt that you can change her alignment eventually if you romance her in BG2. And she gets some fun dialogue with Rasaad due to respective gods they follow.

Yeah pretty much.

I still would much rather have a fully dedicated healer then a Fighter/druid. I basically found the fighter aspect of that class combo useless until you start getting the high level ability's.

I probably am not using her as efficiently as I could, but I find if I stick her in a combat role she will drop quicker then most of my other characters, so I tend to have her just sit back and act as a healer or in a supporter role.

In terms of Aeria, Imoen and Nalia I actually find their multiclasses to be extremely useful by comparison, for Aeria in particular.

Sarevok is really interesting to bring in a good alignment party too. Both him and Viconias character development is really well handled.

There's just one problem though: Evil aligned characters leave if you max your reputation.

It's not a huge deal but still a bit annoying.

Sarevok just complains if you get above 19 reputation, but he wont leave... I think. I don't remember about the others.

Either way its nothing that killing a few peasants and beggers won't fix j/k

The Reputation thing isn't an issue with Vicki really. Her very presence in the group keeps it from hitting 20. She will complain a bit though.

Of course not.

With Drow social conditioning and all, its the only way she knows how to hide just how vulnerable she is, I think.

Vicki is one of the best bioware romances of all time (in my humble opinion) purely because of how she evolves based on her interractions with the player. Its easy to see how she was the way she was based on her history, and how she could change if you show her another way.

And although she starts evil technically its more based on self preservation than 'Muahahaah" evil.

Makes sense when the entire world is basically trying to kill you and you came from a society of underground female dominant spider worshiping psychopaths.

Yeah Viconia is one of my favorite BG2 characters.
