A lot of ME1 and ME2 revolved around the mysterious history of the Protheans. And finally in ME3, we met Javik who shed much clearer light on their imperialistic nature and we learned things were not as benelovant as we (and Liara) had assumed. Would the Mass Effect fans be open to the idea of a Prothean Era Mass Effect series?
Make no mistake about it, we all know what eventually happens to the Protheans. We all know going into this series that eventually there will be a very dark, very depressing conclusion to that story. But isn't that considerably different than any other game you've played before? Have you ever played a game or entertained any form of fiction knowing full-well that it will not have a happy ending (and spare me the ME3 jokes)?
But that does not mean it can't end on a positive note. We could learn much more about the Prothean race, the subserviant races that are hardly touched on in previous titles, and their enemies who refused to surrender their culture to the Prothean Empire. Would you the player support the technologically-unparalleled Protheans who fought for centuries opposing the Reaper invasion, or would you support the subserviant races who opposed the Protheans?
Perhaps even more intriguing.... Wouldn't you also like to know what eventually became of the Prothean scientists who remained in cryo stasis on Ilos until the Reaper invasion was over and went to the Citadel through the conduit to sabotage the Keepers' signal? There are many things a series like this could accomplish, especially if the game could, for even one minute, convince the player there was any modicum of hope whatsoever at saving the the Prothean race from extinction.
What are your thoughts on a Prothean era game or series?
