Oh, and the simple reason - the Huntress' description was slightly messed up - BioWare forgot to add a special modifier to state she has shields, all other asari, playable or henchman, have barriers.
Why does she have shields? To play nice, lore-wise, with Tactical Cloak, as every Cloak except those on volus hardsuits suck from the shields' ability to recharge hit points, and doing that to a biotic barrier makes
no logical sense.
Functionally, player shields and barriers are the same except for Geth Prime explosions, and enemy shields/barriers aren't far off on being interchangable and for flavour either, as the depth in ME2's combat system was more trouble than it was worth, heavily gimping an Adept's intended playstyle on higher difficulties. Much like a SPARTAN's shields or an ODST's stamina in Halo. They do more-or-less the same thing, for similar hit point values, but are a nod to how SPARTAN armour is more advanced than the stuff the normal humans can wear.
And as to that tired, dull argument that "baww sentrnelz are techbiotic me1 toeld meh" - Sentinel means "to guard" and ME1
got it wrong. ME2 fixed it by making the Sentinel the toughest class, and kept Shepard tech/biotic for consistency reasons - ME3 did that too. And there's no reason that multiplayer characters should follow Shepard's mould in anything except doing full damage with weapons and supporting weight-based CD bonuses. (Basically, being a genuine badass and not a pretender like Wrex or Aria) Hell, the Human Sentinel has
no tech beyond that of a Soldier. Tech Armour is a
warp field sandwiched in-between shield layers, and was called that and not "warp armour" because of the holographic indicator to allies that it's active. So, you have the biotic powers Tech Armour, Warp, and Throw. Tech powers? Uh... dual omni-blades and shields?
