I am deciding between a ranged and melee rogue, and am curious as to whether to ranged rogue actually has higher dps than a melee rogue, or if they are roughyl comparable, with differences amounting to little more than playstyle or preference. Thanks.

The game overpowers the Ranger Rogues. So if you want good damage then go Ranger. It has a really big difference compared to melee rogues due to their skills.

The role of the melee rogue and range rogue are very different. I would suggest looking at what role you wanted to play instead of dps. I just finished a play through with a ranged rogue and had a ball.



Popping out of stealth most damage from a single shot was 533. I was able to use Shatter Shot and Scatter Shot and Pinning Shot for crowd control.



I also really enjoyed being able to sit back a view the fights from a distance and see were assistance was i needed, instead of just stabbing the snot out of the closest enemy with their back to me.

A properly built archer has the highest DPS in the game. No need to worry about chugging mana pots and once you get combat stealth you basically need not worry about dying ever either.

So what's the best stat allocation for ranged Rogues? Dex based or Cun with Lethality?

That honor defenitly belongs to DW warrior or DW rogue running momentum.

Even with the Archer doing Arrow of Slaying every 60 seconds, their overall DPS would still pale comapared to the afformentioned two.

Pale is a little bit of a strong word. Especially ince we basically have to theorycraft DPS. Anyway, not sure what happened to my post but it meant to read "A properly built archer has some of".

I haven't tried a ranged rogue (other than Leliana) but I find it hard to believe they can match the DPS of a melee rogue. I've never seen a video or any other evidence of a ranged rogue taking down Loghain, for example, as fast as a melee rogue can.

I'm a Rogue Ranger at lvl10 and I'm sort of both... I like hanging back supporting with the bow, but i dual wield for when mobs get up close.



I don't mind doing a little less damage because i have a party of 5 now as a ranger iwth the added beast which thus far is a wolf.

I have to wonder why MAX DPS is actually important in a single player game....there are plenty of ways to beat this game and having uber-high DPS isn't required in any of them.
