Fereldan, much like a Disney movie.

Dwarf noble? No mom.
Elven alienage? Dead mom.
Dalish elf? Dead mom. (Dad too.)
Dwarven castless? ...haven't played it, let me know.
Mage? Not sure. I believe I remember being asked about my relationship with my dad, but not my mom.
Human noble? Mom, check! (Although, then she dies. Dad, too.)
Anora's got no mom, either. Alistair's got a dead mom. (But dad, too.) Flemeth isn't Morrigan's real mom...Is Leliana an orphan?
Seems like a mother shortage going around here.

But no mother shortage. You have reverend mothers, demon mothers (Flemeth)..and BROODMOTHERS.
Plenty of mothers abound.

Don't forget that Cailan's mom is dead too! Leiliana's mom is also dead. Zev's mom died in childbirth. Casteless have a mom but she's a drunk and doesn't really count. As a mage, you lose ties to your family so you are motherless.
This is one thing that bugs me about the lore of Thedas. All the super strong women get killed off in droves.
Andraste - burned at the stake:o
Rowan - dies of mysterious illness in an epilogue<_<
Queen Moira - betrayed and murdered
Ironically, Alistair's real mom may not actually be dead. But for all intents and purposes, he grows up motherless.
It is almost like Ferelden is a study in the psychology of motherlessness and the video game is just a secondary result. heh.

Isolde (Eamon's wife)

the disowned dwarf daughter in dust town
The dwarf who asks for you to look for her son in the Deep roads

Well there was an entire session with singing, so that counts I guess.

DA:O includes a number of elements Hero's Journey, really.
Call to Adventure/Refusal of the Call: Meeting/Being Conscripted by Duncan
Supernatural Aid and Belly of the Whale would both be the Joining
Crossing the First Threshold is your arrival at Ostagar
The Road of Trials would be getting your allies together, maybe.
I could go on, but you get the idea.

I demand a musical number when he does, though.

Ah, I thought about the falling death. You come back from certain oblivion though.
Edit: I blame Disney for my fear of heights.

If you agreed to Morrigan's bed trick, the Warden has sort of Disney-death.

A good disney death needs to make the audience believe that said character might be dead, and little kids need to actually SEE to body to understand what that means.

She does die in that certain random encounter though.

I remember her just fainting, not dieing...

And it was fainting in a cutscene, that usually means death. Remember the pocketknife of doom and arrows of inexplicable doom.

But it's not quite as powerful as your character after doing the deed with Morrigan, since it's done at the climax of the story which is where all (most) good disney deaths occur!
