Doubt many people have mentioned her, but I really hope that inquisitor woman used in the DA2 framing device with Varric has a pretty big role (given the game's subtitle, this isn't necessarily unlikely). Any reason to look at her more and listen to her speak more.

Isabela - was my Hawkes LI and i loved her character heaps, would add comic relief like most characters and it would mean she would be in all three games. If she was Hawkes LI maybe have them appear together
Hawke - should come back with LI and keep the personality you gave him/her, maybe have him and new protagonist work together
Leliana - want to know her involvement and she is one of my favorite companions plus my wardens LI
Flemeth - story reasons and maybe a main antagonist that tries to stop you or betrays new character
Morrigan/Alistair - couldn't decide between them, morrigan for story reasons and some humour and same for Alistair

1, Morrigan - NOT as a cameo, It has to be a relevant story driven encounter, otherwise I'm not interested.

2. Alistair/Logain/Anora - A meeting with the ruler of Ferelden That some how turns out to be useful, like the one in DA2 but... useful...

3. STEN! - "Where is the cake? I was told there would be cake! The cake is a lie..."

4. A miniature couch - for obvious reasons.

5. Shale - A rare random encounter that leads to a quest to kill birds!

Extra: Isabela in it whether she was Hawkes LI or not because she is my Favorite Character

With Isabela her fate is unknown no matter what you do with her, if you give her to the qunari she escapes according to the codex. Same as if she was your LI as no-one knows what Hawke and s/he LI fate is. In comics though it says she and Varric are helping Alistair which is confusing if she was Hawkes LI as she said she wouldn't leave him.

So like Leliana, Flemeth and Morrigan no matter what you do with them they seem to survive hinting that they are important for the whole plot

 1. Morrigan, but only if we also see Flemeth. Flemeth, but only if we see Morrigan. The end of Witch Hunt and the beginning of DAII made me hungry for a confrontation.

2. Zevran, I never tire of that elf.

3. Varric, same reason as above. Also I want to romance dat dwarven hunk Besides, there are some questions I feel he could answer rather well if the Seekers are going to make another appearance. 

4. Sten, if only briefly. 

5. Leliana. The end of DAII cemented this for me. The fact that she is made to be alive regardless of what happens in DA:O is a huge red flag for me as well; there is something very important about her that I'm waiting to see. 

A note to make; if we meet our Hawke in DAIII the companion who was said to have gone with them at the end of DAII should be with them unless they're already plot-important somehow.

Flemeth is gonna be there for sure, Fangirls will demand Cullen so I will have to look his face again and since its not that far away to Ferelden Alistair will probably come to. And except for Varric and Anders I don't really want to see anyone from our DA2 band of misfits.

Mostly I want to see some new original characters.

Nobody. As much as I loved certain characters, I think when bioware quotes or cameos characters from previous games it almost always is pointless and cheesy. The swooping is bad line was funny in the first game because of the scene and the way it was delivered. Just because fans liked it doesn't mean it should have been turned into a catch phrase. Same with Kirahe and "hold the line" Mordin and his singing, Isolde's "who is this MAN Teagan?" etc...

I would rather have all new interesting and developed characters than caricatures of characters that were once fleshed out. Cameo characters become running jokes/ references.

I agree with much of this post.

The fact that Alistair repeated a line that people liked from the first game is a clear example of them shoe horning him into the game because they can, if that wasn't already obvious by the fact that he's completely irrelevant to the story.

Beloved moments/phrases don't become such things because of some detailed, careful planning(Most of the time, if it's REALLY elaborated then maybe), they happen spontaniously and in retrospect, no one expects that beloved moment/phrase to be so loved/become legendary(or what have you).

That said, I would like to see some characters again, companions or not:

Morrigan(Finish up her story, please)
Leliana(Plenty of potential here; The fact that she's alive no matter is a clear example that there is something going on with her)
Varric(Same as above)
Isabela(Same as above)
Sten(Just cause I wanna)

And possibly Alistair, if he can fit.
