I have mixed felings about the achievements in the DA series since they seem to be there for only one purpose.

That is to tell you that you have done something in a certain way which unlocks a clap on the shoulder.
Which is good if people really need that sort of thing.

I remember ME1s achievement system where; if you had a companion with you thoughout most of the game then an achievement would unlock  and give some minor bonus for the future playthroughs.

I know its like the friendship/rivaly system in DA2 but there was other achievements, one for +10% exp when you hit level 50 in a playthough or 10% more health for killing a number of a particular enermies.

I dont know if I'm alone in this or if anyone else feels the same way but I haven't unlocked the mage hunter achievement in DA2 just because I don't get anything for it .
Since I dont get anything, it just doesn't interrest me that much to try and unlock an achievement.

Maybe someone could give their insight to what they think about the system and maybe what you would like to see in DA:I.

That was indeed pretty cool in ME1. There was an incentive to do it. That would likely be the best way to do it.

Basically, you're asking for Trophies/Achievements to unlock in-game bounuses as you unlock them.

I like it the way it is. The achievements serve as a way of telling the player there is something interesting they might want to try.

As a rule, I ignore all Trophies/Achievements.
I will say that I prefer Trophies/Achievements only be given for when you do something difficult.

not asking for it but asking what other peoples opinion is on it.
does people like it the way it is or do they think its unnecessary to have in the first place?

also I can see that it might lead to a combat imbalance problem getting minor bonuses.

Does it really? I dont think it does, I've played DA2 thought 7 times with different clases and done both aspect of each quest though all the playthoughs.
Still i haven't gotten the mage hunter achievement becuase in non of the playthoughs i've sided with the templars 5 times. So i haven't missed out on anything. other than that achievment.

I enjoyed how they did the achievements for the first ME game, but it does seem a little unfair to those players who don't replay games.

I ignore them in my first playthrough. When i start a second playthrough, however, I do check them out and try to get most of them. Some can be an indication of stuff i completely missed too. In DA2, for example, I had no clue about the Hybris bit in the game, and the quest about destroying the books and fighting the desire demon in Darktown.

They need to look at the way Guild Wars 2 does Achievements.

I've never played it so if you could explain how it works it would be great so i dont have to find out myself since i'm lazy

Well do you think that siding with the mages or templars 5 times is difficult or just bothersome then ?

Crowning Glory. That achievement alone is why I am still in the "You need to convince me" camp on DAI. So basically, DON"T DO THAT AGAIN.

Yes i though also that this was more an irritation because siding with the templars i though i would  side with Meredith on her beliefs and not the genneral templar orders beliefs.

which made me inclined to not side with the templar at all in the last act.

Achievements should be hard to obtain and worked towards not handed out like candy in a candy factory, personally I also would like SP and MP achievements seporated. I like SP achievements but do not like MP ones, I try to gain as many SP ones as can as a completionist... But I do not play MP in 99% of games I own so when see I have like 50% or 75% achievements gained on a game yet knowing 25% or 50% of my missing ones is limited to MP only annoys me. I want 100% completion of achievements on SP even if means 0% completion of achievements in MP. Just seporate them from each other ideally.

Bonuses are OK if I have a way to turn my achievements off again. Bio games are easy enough without having a lot of bonuses crammed down my throat.

What was bothersome was the resources achivement. I got all of those, by pure grinding, and it didn`t unlock. Its the only achievement I am missing, i think.

Personally, I like achievements to be earned for doing things that are "cool" rather than just "difficult".

One more thing, maybe include unlockables as part of the achievement system, unlocking weapons, items or areas, hairstyles or other such things as a reward for gaining certain achievements. If done this might improve the replayability of the game if once gained for example new CC options or a new area or item from doing something hard later in the game it may be availible for early on in the next playthrough like they used to have in some old games back in the 80's and 90's. It would be a bit like the NG+ only specific unlockables linked to specific tasks from last playthrough.

That i would support aswell since most "elite" players might not want them on when playing on the hardest difficulty,

If you have The Black Emporium DLC you can buy them from one of the stores and still get the achievement, i'm pretty sure that how i got it in the end.

As long as they have a "Beat the game" achievement that isn't hidden and a few story progress ones it doesn't matter too much to me.

I see the only purpose of achievements is so people on your friend list can look and see how far you are in a game or if you've beaten it.

DA:O had it so the story progress achievements depended on your decisions in the game, so they also gave a rough outline of how they went through the game (did they keep the anvil of the void? which origin story did they do? which class did they reach lv 20 as?)

Obviously those types of achievements are useless when people start doing multiple playthroughs

Yes that type of achievements were useless.
A system where you can see which achievements have been unlocked by what character to show youself and friends at what playthroughs you got them would be better then maybe ?
