I'm not sure if this would be the place to ask about mods but i cant see any other forums on this so:
When i got this game i was really excited and it has lived up to all my expectations.
My only problem is the fact they have used the Mass Effect set-up of having only 4 characters in a team instead of the Baldurs Gate 8 character party.
The thing is, 4 is great when your fighting with guns but i find that to effectively have a game like this you NEED more than 4 people.
One thing i've noticed is your 4 player party can get swamped by enemies, and this has lead to my downfall several times.
I've also found that i have no room in my party for a rogue, so i'm leaving all the loot in locked rooms/ chests behind. The reason i havnt got room is because i need 3 warrior types to defend my mages (until i can get at least one up to Arcane Warrior).
This is really getting to me cos i remember BG and BG2 and how you had an effective and diverse team made up of one or two mages a rogue and 5-6 warrior types.
I am going to ask:
Does anyone know of a mod that adds 4 more character slots into the game whilst also increasing the difficulty and/or number of enemies to accomodate a stronger team?
Character slots?

No. (as Sten would say).
In all seriousness, you do not 'need' what you say. This game is not BG, so get that out of your mindeset straight away. Repeat after me 20 times until you feel cleansed. This is not BG.
Aghhhhhh....now thats out of the way lol, seriously, the game is not hard, if your 'finding' it hard, then i would suggest setting the difficulty to easy.
Also, you do not need 3 ftr types to look after a mage. Mages in DA are by far the strongest class (imo) and should be looking after the rest of your party.
It would seem (and I'm not trying to have a go, but help you with some perspectives) that your playstyle is perhaps the deciding factor in your post, not the games difficulty.
You didnt mention it, but I would assume that your concentrating on using one character and not micro managing. While your companions come with tactics slots, which are useful 'to an extent', DA is really meant to be played as a party, ie 'you' play all the characters, you micro manage what they are doing and when (tactics slots are a secondary measure to me).
The game can be completed with 3 mages and 1 rogue, 3 rogues and a warrior...etc etc. There is no need for any party composition at all. hell the game can be solo'd if you take your time.
Also, there is never any need to lose loot, as once you have finished an area, just go back to mop up the chests when you have kliled everything.
I have tried to be balanced and helpful without having a go (if I didnt succeed then apologies) but I would imagine your not going to get much help here, plenty of flames and lots of, you can solo on nightmare responses.
While all those are to be fair possible and correct, it does seem to me to be your style of play. Do you wade into a big confrontation rather than trying to pull one or two mobs at a time, what spells so far has you mage got fir his/her level (certain spells do help more at low levels), are you using your CC spels on crowds etc?
So even there, your playstyle could be fine, but if your warriors are using all the wrong gear, your mage has a varied mix bag of spells rather than concentrating on a single line etc, it can help to make a bad experience.
But I will finish with my usual witty and sarcastic response, surely part of the fun of playing a game like this, is figuring things out, learning and getting better?

I'm not finding the game hard its just i would like to have a larger party at times, cos at the moment there are charactes i havnt used since i recruited them (zevran, warhound <- i only used the warhound at the start when i only had him and Alistair).
The reason i said i use warriors with different specialities and a mage (i've been careful to specialise Wynne on healing and mid skill tree defence/ offence and morrigan to offence and shapeshifting, they are both great mages and well rounded) i just find that the enemies can 'kill' them fairly quickly which is annoying cos i need morrigan to support and, when i use wynne, to heal major damage (although i hope to stop this by making them both arcane warriors as a secondary specification which will probably sort my problem out.
I barely use Sten and i dont think i'd use the dwarf much as Shale is damn near impurvious (spelling?) to all but the most powerful spells.
ATM my team consists of:
Main Char (great armour and weapon and shield)
Alistair (same as above) (Both of these are warriors)
Wynne or Morrigan (flip flops) (good mage equiptment, soon to be heavy armour and good staffs (found some goos staffs that do tonnes of damage and add loads to spells))
and finally Shale (although i'm using the Dwarf atm for the Orzammar quest).

All in all i think i have a very good team, but i dont like the way i'm leaving certain characters behind after promising them darkspawn to kill..... (Sten)
.....and i dont really want that cocky Antivan to get killed by the Crows...... (Zevran)
......AND(
) i feel i'm wasting my time with the chantry Ortivan....
The reason i asked is i am a bit of an all inclusive person and i dont like leaving people behind, especially after taing them on, and, i know its a game, but i cant bring myself to say the line 'I think you need to leave'. It doesnt sound polite and it makes me feel bad lol

ACTUALLY... you logically can have 8 party members. If you are a mage or rogue, with the first, you can create an undead minion as a companion, or if you are a rogue, you can pick Ranger specialization and summon animals. Have 3 companions which are either mages or rogues and give them the spells/talents or specializations needed, and there you have... a seriously... big party. Then you can call DA:O a real time strategy!!
More seriously though... I don't know how to tell you, but in Baldur's gate you're actually limited to 6 party members... Yes, I know, it can be hard to pass such a moment, but don't worry, it won't ruin your entire life...

Then leave them at camp? Certain companions are better in certain areas/for certain quests.
On your next playthrough make a point of using the companions you didnt use this time?
Thaks for taking my post the right way, many misunderstand my rants lol. I can see your point indeed, in all my 5 run throughs, I cant bring myself NOT to use Leli and Morri, they are just wonderful hehe.
But seriously, there is some great party banter between the different companions, well worth using them all at points. And, if you dont like a companions style, maybe use the respek mod (search here under the projects tab - its right at the top) and say turn Sten into a sword and board warrior instead of a 2H'her....that way you get to use him, but use him more to your style?

You could try rotating your Taunt skill between your warriors so it's always available for when you get mobbed. This game has MMO-style aggro built into the AI scripts so if your mage attracts an enemy's attention and your warrior can't Taunt, your mage is now taking a beating. In an MMO this is handled by multiple players since there is one behind each character, but in this game it creates a lot of micromanagement because there is one player behind all party members. All in all, I prefer how combat was handled in Infinity Engine games (BG/2, IWD/2, etc.)
You can, on the PC, exceed four party members via the console, but the UI won't list them and I'm not sure if there are other issues with doing that. I don't suggest it because it's just that many more characters you have to babysit.
After restarting several times halfway through the game, I gave up on combat micromanaging and soloed on Easy. Because of annoying group AI, I'm gravitating toward single-character games like The Witcher, Risen, Divinity 2, and so on. For now, I'm done with DA:O. Maybe later I'll get inspired to remove the aggro feature from the combat scripts (it's highlighted by comments), but I can't be bothered at the moment.

what trouble do you have with party AI?
The only problems i have is as one of my guys kills an enemy, they dont target and attack another and if they do its only about half the time, i have to do it for them (although this was what happened in BG quite a lot as well). Even on 'Scrapper' tactics setting.

Both BG1 and BG2 had six character parties.
As for DA, you just have to learn how the game works. Your warriors shouldn't be protecting your mages from the hoards, the mages should be dealing with the hoards while the warriors take down the nasty targets.
